Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid N.C. Criminal Justice General Instructor Certification
  • 5+ years of law enforcement experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Flexibility of working hours to include day and evening classes at various locations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate or higher degree in Criminal Justice or related field from an accredited institution
  • Work experience as an instructor in a N.C. Community College BLET program
  • Valid high liability instructor’s certification (i.e., Firearms, Driver Instructor, SCAT, etc.).
  • Currently sworn law enforcement professional

Position Description

GENERAL FUNCTION:

Under limited supervision, BLET instructors will co-teach the course.  The responsibilities for the program include but are not limited to, classroom and laboratory instruction, examination preparation and grading, and preparing students for a career in law enforcement.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of their field or discipline.

·         Stay current in their subject matter through professional development by attending instructor updates from the NC Training and Standards Commission as well as other related training.

·         Use current lesson plans provided by the School Director. Instructors must conduct all required practical exercises and utilize all mandated equipment and audio-visual aids noted in the lesson plans and/or instructor notes.

·         Conduct safety briefings prior to the commencement of any practical exercises.

·         Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize documented student learning outcomes.

·         Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students.

·         Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently to promote maximum learning.

·         Maintain confidentiality of student information.

·         Respond in a timely fashion to information requests from college, division, and program administrators.

·         Maintain familiarity with college goals, mission, and long-range plans.
