The position requires a bachelor’s degree with two years of experience working with adults in a learning environment. Candidates must recognize the distinct nature and importance of education and skill development for adults diagnosed with I/DD.

Position Description
GENERAL FUNCTION:
The adult basic education instructor is responsible for teaching individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities at the Brunswick Community College Interagency Program. The ABE instructor prepares students to live and work successfully in their communities. The instructor develops lesson plans, lectures, coordinates project-based activities, and creates and atmosphere that stimulates learning, independence, and teamwork.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develops a daily and weekly schedule and supplies the Director with a list of equipment and teaching materials as needed for the class. Eliminates or decreases any physical, or social problems that may arise that prohibit or hinder the normalization process by working with family member and other agencies to provide appropriate services.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to stand for long periods of time, lift and bend. Must be able to push a wheelchair safely navigating from point A to point B.
