Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION:
Master’s Degree in English or related field with at least 18 graduate hours of English.
KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS:
- Teaching and administrative experience leading to this level of responsibility
- Demonstration of skills in the area of communication, organization, and managing multiple priorities
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, community groups and others
- Demonstrated ability to work within a collaborative team environment
- Display respect for social, cultural, spiritual, and intellectual diversity
- Must have at least minimal skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint or similar applications
- Experience with a distance learning platform

Position Description

Carteret Community College (Morehead City, NC) is accepting applications for a full-time English and Communications Chairperson. The Chair will provide leadership, fulfill administrative and instructional duties, collaborate with the Dean, advise students, and perform other job responsibilities as described below.

Duties include:

- Provide leadership, vision, planning, evaluation, and supervision for the English and communications disciplines.
- Provide leadership in course development, scheduling, and classroom management.
- Provide leadership with regard to our academic policies and instruction in the realm of Artificial Intelligence.
- Promote a safe environment conducive to learning and maintain high standards in all programs and courses, in accordance with academic policies and procedures.
- Oversee and participate in recruitment, enrollment, advising, and retention development strategies.
- Assist faculty in establishing and executing student learning and program outcomes and assess related data for continuous improvement of student success.
- Direct the development and administration of the departmental budget, including personnel and physical resources.
- Manage the hiring, credentialing, and evaluation of full and part-time faculty.
- Plan and deliver instruction according to the Faculty Workload Policy.
- Request supplies and materials and recommend appropriate equipment/technology.
- Maintain, review, and update course content, learning outcomes, and course syllabi.
- Assist advisees and maintain proficiency in program completion requirements.
- Advise in the MAPS center during registration periods.
- Adhere to all institutional policies and procedures.
- Serve on College committees and task forces as assigned.
- Attend required campus events including graduation, professional development, & employee meetings.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
