Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential 
  • Active license from the NC Respiratory Care Board
  • At least four (4) years of full-time experience as a RRT, with at least two (2) years in clinical respiratory care
  • At least two (2) years of experience in a teaching position with an accredited respiratory therapy program as a faculty member or clinical instructor/preceptor

Position Description

Under limited supervision, the Clinical Coordinator for Respiratory Therapy serves as the Director of Clinical Education (DCE) as defined by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC). The Clinical Coordinator/DCE is responsible for oversight of all clinical practicum activities to ensure appropriate supervision, alignment with program outcomes, and compliance with CoARC accreditation standards. The role includes coordination of clinical education with didactic and laboratory instruction, ongoing assessment of clinical education effectiveness, and regular communication with students, clinical faculty, and clinical affiliates.

What You’ll Do:

Instruction & Curriculum Delivery

  • Teaches up to 13.5 contact hours per week, reflecting a 25% teaching load reduction required by CoARC accreditation standards to ensure appropriate oversight, coordination, and administration of the respiratory therapy program and its clinical education components. 
  • Prepare and deliver instruction aligned with course objectives, including development of syllabi, lesson plans, and instructional materials.
  • Maintain laboratory and classroom readiness, including equipment preparation, maintenance, and supply recommendations.
  • Facilitate online and hybrid instruction, engaging students through synchronous and asynchronous learning methods when applicable.
  • Provide timely evaluation, grading, and feedback to support student learning and success.
  • Develops and manages clinical documents and clinical evaluation tools; compiles and maintains evaluation results. 
  • Makes regular visits to clinical agencies during clinical rotations.

Student Support & Advising

  • Determines students’ clinical placement and schedules.
  • Evaluates students’ readiness for clinical placement, including but not limited to, verification of immunizations, physical exam, CPR, and clearance by clinical agency(ies) based on criminal background check and/or drug screen results.
  • Serves as educational advisor to students and participates in semester advising and registration activities as requested or as needed by individual students.
  • Conducts clinical orientation(s) with students; ensures compliance with all clinical agencies’ orientation requirements. 
  • Participates in recruitment activities and supports program outreach
  • Maintains posted office and on-campus hours sufficient to fulfill all contracted duties and individual professional obligations, as well as meet the needs of the program, division, and college. 

Professional Development

  • Attends in-service training and other professional development opportunities to stay current with developments in the field of instruction.
  • Participates in program, divisional, and institutional meetings, committees, and other announced activities.
  • Assists in the identification, development, preview, and acquisition of educational resources and supplies required to meet program objectives and improve instruction.

Departmental & Institutional Services

  • Contributes to the development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum and utilize available educational resources for the improvement of instruction and the creation of teaching materials.
  • Fulfills committee assignments and other special appointments within the college and community, and otherwise, gives appropriate support to college endeavors.
  • Represents the program, division, and college in institutional assignments, community affairs, and professional activities.
  • Provides support and training for clinical instructors/preceptors as needed. 
  • Participates in student disciplinary proceedings and grievance procedures. 

Administrative & Record Keeping Responsibilities

  • Completes duties and responsibilities in compliance with college standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensures clinical agreements pertinent to the program are current and provisions are met.
  • Identifies, selects, contracts with, monitors, and evaluates clinical agencies; identifies and facilitates needed clinical agreements.
  • Assists in the development and enforcement of policies and procedures related to student admission, progression, and graduation.
