Position Description
Statement of Primary Purpose
Recruitment and retention of students and teachers, classroom instruction and management, and curriculum development in the College and Career Readiness department with emphasis on English Language Acquisition and Human Resources Development programs. Advocate with community partners for English Language Acquisition and Human Resource Development opportunities. Manage student enrollment, retention, and completion data.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Plan and implement English Language Acquisition (ELA), including Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education (IELCE), and Human Resources Development (HRD) offerings.
- Work with community partners and advocate for College and Career Readiness programs with emphasis on ELA and HRD opportunities.
- Recruit, hire, train, and support instructors. Facilitate interviews, class visits, and instructor orientations and coaching.
- Lead orientation sessions for incoming ELA and HRD students.
- Assist in student recruitment, advising, orientation, and retention.
- Administer standardized tests to students.
- Manage and monitor student registration, testing, and progress data.
- Organize data for annual and local reports. Use Literacy Education Information System (LEIS) data reports for post testing, National Reporting System (NRS) scores, attendance, and other data resources.
- Plan and present faculty/staff training and development activities.
- Visit classes regularly to provide instructor supervision, written feedback, and instructional coaching.
- Provide classroom instruction and management in ELA, IELCE, and HRD classes, up to 10 hours per week.
- Recommend and assist with updates to curriculum, instructional materials, and educational equipment.
- Maintain accurate class records for monthly submission and validate attendance after instructor submission weekly.
- Prepare payroll for part-time ELA and HRD instructors in an accurate, timely manner.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
- Be responsible for professional development and maintaining professional competence.
- Collaborate with the college public relations to publicize the College and Career Readiness enrollment opportunities and student success stories.
- Respond in a timely manner to all student and colleague requests.
- Attend and assist with departmental functions such as graduation ceremonies, advisory committee meetings, and professional development for instructors.
- Participate in regular training and professional development.
- Assist with student pre-testing and post-testing.
- Serve on college committees.
- Perform data entry as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
Required: Bachelor’s degree.
Preferred: Master’s degree and one year of supervisory experience. Proficiency in speaking Spanish, TESOL certificate or teaching experience in the area of ESL, ELA, or world languages.
Knowledge and Skills
Managerial experience preferred. Experience teaching or leading in adult education or literacy education preferred. Ability to use computers and software to support instruction and supervision, including learning management system, word processing, e-mail, Internet, and student information database. Familiarity with Basic Skills/Literacy programming in North Carolina Community Colleges, English Language Acquisition and Human Resources Development programs.
Physical Demands
Ability to multitask and perform in an environment with a high level of activity.
Licensing Requirement
Valid NC Driver’s License
Working Conditions and Environment
Travel as necessary, typically within the service area to teach, supervise, and support day and evening classes. Occasional overnight travel for professional development and training.
Equipment Operation
Working knowledge of office and educational equipment and software.
