Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, or other curriculum that would provide a core curriculum in financial management coursework from an appropriately accredited institution;
or Associate degree in accounting from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of accounting or auditing experience;
or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of experience as an accounting technician, three of which must be at an advanced technical level;
or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The North Carolina Community College System (System Office) is a statewide network of 58 public community colleges. The system enrolls over 500,000 students annually. It is the 3rd largest in the nation based on the number of colleges. It also provides data to the North Carolina Learning Object Repository by collecting, contributing, and sharing digital learning resources for use in traditional or distance learning environments. The Accounting Specialist position is responsible for working collaboratively with the College Funding Unit and business office personnel across the 58 North Carolina Community Colleges. This position will use knowledge of general accounting principles and procedures to monitor and reconcile community college general ledger activity and state disbursing bank accounts. This position will provide comprehensive analysis of budget and expenditure data to ensure adherence to state and federal accounting procedures and policies. The Accounting Specialist will provide technical assistance and guidance to the 58 community colleges of North Carolina.
This position allows for a hybrid work schedule, working remotely two (2) days per week and three days at the NC Community Colleges System Office in downtown Raleigh, adhering to the NCCCSO Telework Policy and the business needs.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.
Recruitment salary range is up to $61,058.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

- Experience and knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
- Ability to assist in interpreting and analyzing accounting data.

Management Preferences:
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
- Knowledge of community college general ledger activity and business processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and other Microsoft applications.
- Ability to compile, monitor, audit and analyze financial reports.
