Statement of Primary Purpose

In support of Isothermal Community College, the College Navigator serves to guide students through all stages of their educational journey at Isothermal Community College and is responsible for ensuring that students have a quality front door experience and are connected to institutional resources. College Navigators will work collaboratively with faculty and staff to provide a broad range of services through the enrollment cycle to students to facilitate academic readiness, progress, and success.

 

Essential Responsibilities

  1. Attend trainings to become/remain knowledgeable of ICC resources, programs and transfer opportunities, and requirements.
  2. Support the College’s Strategic Plan and Student Success initiatives.
  3. Collaborate with College personnel to develop advisement outcomes and plans for continuous improvement.
  4. Teach students how to navigate the Student Portal, find electronic forms, and use other ICC resources.
  1. Assist students with admission, career advising, educational planning, registration, and provide guidance in course selection to maintain the student’s interests, values, and abilities
  2. Advise students on degree planning, transfer planning, and other program opportunities and requirements. When necessary, provide e-advising.
  1. Provide assistance with course selection/schedules by:
    • Advising students to balance their work and class schedule.
    • Assisting students in choosing appropriate modes of course instruction.
    • Facilitating and managing schedule changes and ICC’s Withdrawal Process for new and continuing students.
  2. Monitor advisee’s progress, to include periodic grade reviews and mid-semester check to review grades  and meet with students to provide regular, customized feedback.
  3. Monitor and work with appropriate department(s)/office(s) to remove registration flags/holds where necessary.
  4. Adhere to ICC’s academic policies and procedures.
  5. Monitor academic progress of students through the implementation of retention strategies such as Early Intervention, identifying potential needs or problem areas (study skills, tutoring, etc.) and referring students to appropriate campus resources for assistance
  6. Provide referrals for services based upon individual student needs. Refers and connects students with relevant College resources.
  7. Work with faculty and staff from your assigned division to develop guidelines and information for particular program areas.
  1. Collaborate with Student Services and other areas of the College to support Student Success initiatives and to provide students with accurate and timely information to make informed and positive decisions.
  2. Assist students in selecting educational programs compatible with their interests, needs, and abilities; administer introductory online career assessments as needed.
  3. Maintain confidentiality of information exposed to in the course of business regarding students, supervisors, or other employees.
  4. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty, and the public.
  5. Interpret and explain college policies and procedures, participate in preparation of orientations, and present academic information to new students and parents during orientation.
  1. Participate in College committees and/or other college-wide activities as elected or assigned.
  2. Provide evening advising, as necessary.
  3. Other duties as assigned.
