Minimum Qualifications

  • Journey-level (at least 4 years) construction industry experience in any skilled craft trade and a working understanding of the residential building process, from site excavation through certificate of occupancy. 
  • Ability to perform and teach basic carpentry, including floor, wall, and ceiling/roof framing, stair construction, exterior finish work, and roofing fundamentals, with an emphasis on safety and proper use of personal protection equipment (PPE). 
  • Applicant must be willing to earn National Center for Construction Education Research (NCCER) certifications within the first three months.

Job Duties

Curriculum and Instruction
• Develop with other program faculty and instructional staff for appropriate program level competencies that outline
expected student learning outcomes in curriculum and continuing education courses.
• Update and revise existing courses for relevancy and currency consistent with the position and mission of the College.
• Develop new curriculum and continuing education programs and courses.
• Develop course syllabi for curriculum and continuing education courses to include the course description from the
NCCCS combined course library and outlining clear and appropriate student learning outcomes and expectations.
• Create the development of appropriate assessments of established learning outcomes for all courses taught in the
program.
• Report student progress in mastering established learning outcomes based on identified and approved assessments.
• Implement and provide effective instruction which demonstrates appropriate knowledge of specialized field in
accordance with best practice literature.
• Teach an appropriate instructional course.
• Teach courses at times that meet students’ and employer schedules to include day, evening, online and weekends.
• Demonstrate the effective use of best practice methods to maximize student learning and success.
• Maintain appropriate classroom standards that include the effective management of students in the
classroom/lab/clinical environment in a way that promotes student learning.
• Post and maintain regular office hours to ensure accessibility for advisement of students and consultation with
colleagues and day, evening and online students.
• Establish work-based learning experiences, internships, and job shadowing experiences with employers in coordination
with directors and deans.
• Order textbooks, instructional materials, and supplies as needed for instruction following established procedures.
• Provide coverage, when necessary, as designated by supervisor, for other faculty and instructional staff within the
department in case of absences.
• Assist in the development of curriculum and continuing education class schedules cooperatively with other
departments and divisions of the college and submitting to the appropriate supervisor.
• Maintain compliance with established NCCCS performance measures, national benchmarks, etc. for the appropriate
program as prescribed by the NCCCS and accrediting and registration entities.
• Provide timely and accurate membership records of students enrolled in curriculum and continuing education and
submit per established timelines.
• Recommend part-time faculty to the appropriate supervisor to teach courses as needed in assigned program and
continuing education classes.
• Mentor part-time faculty as needed in the assigned program.
• Use Watermark to engage students and improve student retention and provide proactive outreach for students.
• Engage with employers to determine state-of-the-art practices, procedures, and equipment related to maintaining an upto-date instructional program that would be valued in the RCC service area (Rockingham County).
• Establish partnerships and engage with K-12 career technical education teachers and staff.
• Maintain professional growth and best practices in the subject matter through involvement in professional
organizations, meetings, conferences and on and off campus workshops to remain relevant.
• Recruit and promote enrollment in curriculum and workforce continuing education classes
• Develop and maintain an electronic learning site for all assigned curriculum and continuing education courses through
the current learning management system.
• Maintain the LMS gradebook so it accurately reflects student grades within a two-week grading window for recent
student assessments.
• Ensure that all online content is accessible per federal and institutional accreditation guidelines.
• Demonstrate knowledge and skill in the use of computer operations required for instruction, advisement, retention, and
other college recognized forms of communication.
• Uphold the dignity of the profession by appropriate dress, professional behavior, and professional communication.
• Maintain confidentiality of student information per RCC and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
guidelines.
Student Development Support
• Maintain posted office hours in accordance with requirements outlined in the Academic Procedures Manual.
• Be available to students on a regular basis for out-of-class tutorial support.
• Participate in recruitment activities for RCC.
• Advise students relative to course requirements, expectations, and completion standards in a manner that promotes
student success and reflects best practice.
• Participate in the college’s registration and orientation sessions as assigned.
• Maintain student files within the department as required by the accreditation agency and state and/or local policy.
• Refer students to Student Development personnel for guidance, counseling, and resource assistance following
prescribed procedures on an as needed basis.
• Coordinate retention strategies with the appropriate faculty and administrative staff to maximize student retention.
• Support program enrichment activities, i.e. guest speakers, field trips, job shadows, internships and work-based
learning.
Administrative Services Support
• Participate in budget development for assigned program to the appropriate supervisor.
• Comply with purchasing policies and procedures set forth for RCC.
• Review needs for equipment, supplies and instructional materials and recommend purchases
• Maintain program budget
• Manage classroom, lab facilities and equipment for program area for safety, maintenance, and professional standards.
• Ensure that all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards are met and comply with the General
Duty Clause of the OSH Act to ensure that programs operate in a safe and healthful environment.
• Ensure that all Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards are met and remain current with the standards in the
field.
Institutional Support
• Work a minimum 38-hour workweek in accordance with RCC policies and procedures.
• Assist with the implementation and enforcement of all policies and procedures of RCC.
• Attend meetings, conferences, seminars, briefings, and training sessions called to expedite the business of the college.
• Attend extracurricular functions that promote the collegiate life.
• Serve on local, state, regional and/or national committees upon request and/or approval from the administration.
• Serve on college committees and work groups as assigned to expedite college business and to be involved in the
decision-making process of the college.
• Demonstrate a personal and professional attitude reflects positively upon the individual and supports the mission,
vision and values of RCC.
• Participate in the activities for institutional accreditation.
Public Relations Support
• Maintain effective intra-institution relationships with members of the Board of Trustees, President’s Senior Staff,
Administrative Staff, faculty, and support personnel of the college.
• Provide appropriate liaison support with the NCCCS and other relational entities.
• Represent RCC at community and outside organization functions/events and participate in outreach events to promote
programs, courses, and the College.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the appropriate Program Director/Coordinator, Department Chair, Dean, Vice President for Academic Affairs and/or the President of Rockingham Community College.
