Minimum Qualifications

- North Carolina Level II Firefighter required.
- North Carolina Level III Fire Instructor Certification or North Carolina Level III Officer certification required.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a professional and/or volunteer firefighter required.

Position Description

Serve as the coordinator/instructor of Fire and Rescue training by working closely with the county’s fire, rescue, emergency medical services, law enforcement agencies and industries. Primary duties and responsibilities include the development, delivery, and administration of the College’s Fire and Rescue training course offerings. Other duties include designing a comprehensive marketing plan for program promotion, maintaining a budget, providing documentation of program success, hiring and supervision of adjunct faculty, conducting class visits, and developing course materials.
Essential Duties Summary	Assist in the recruitment and retention efforts for Continuing Education classes including outreach for business, industry and public safety sectors. Prepare a master schedule of course offerings each semester. Provide academic advising for prospective and current students. Provide effective and relevant instruction by teaching classes as required. Recruit, interview, hire, and orient appropriately credentialed faculty. Submit all hiring documents and verification of credentials to HR within required timeframe Assign teaching schedules for faculty within workload guidelines. Evaluate classes by classroom observations and assists as needed with instructional delivery and classroom management. Manage all class registration, roll sheets, class attendance and monthly payroll for all instructors within the fire program. Close out all registered and graded classes and report on class information sheet at the end of each semester. Evaluate success rates of programs and instructors. Provides ongoing professional development opportunities. Participate in Continuing Education meetings. Facilitate the selection and ordering of textbooks. Ensure Fire and Rescue programs are in full compliance with the requirements for accreditation, certification, and other standards as stipulated by NCCCS. Establish and maintains an effective advisory committee in support of Fire and Rescue Training. Develops and maintain productive relationships and work with personnel of local fire/rescue departments, N.C. Fire Commission, and other similar agencies in developing and providing training programs to meet identified needs and interests within the parameter defined by NCCCS. Develop and administer budgets for Fire and Rescue. Recommend departmental needs for personnel, equipment, supplies, facilities, and other resources during the annual planning process. Maintain and document Continuing Education workflow procedures to ensure program integrity and accountability in accordance with NCCCS and state regulatory agency requirements. Manage the maintenance and repair of training facility and equipment to assure a safe environment and safe equipment for training classes. Attend county rescue association meetings and county firefighters and training officer’s association meetings. Attend other regional, state, and national related meetings as appropriate. Visit other training institutions as needed for research and to strengthen collaborative partnerships with other colleges. Monitor and schedule training activities taking place at BETC to ensure safe practices and College rules are observed. Possess a knowledge and understanding of the National Fire Protection Association’s standards, particularly those which regulate fire training centers, live burns, firefighter safety and any materials and fuels used at BETC. Be familiar with the BETC master plan such as the local of underground water systems and gas lines. Manage the overall safety and security procedures of the BETC. Perform other duties as assigned and other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
