Position Description

DEFINITION:
Under the supervision of the Director of Counseling and Student Accessibility Services (SAS) and according to Division and/or College procedures and Board policy, the Coordinator of Student Accessibility Services ensures compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. This individual coordinates services for students with disabilities by securing documentation, developing student accommodation plans, maintaining student files, and providing referrals to additional resources such as counseling, tutoring, career services, etc. The Coordinator Student Accessibility Services works collaboratively with other College staff and faculty by creating and sustaining a culture that promotes student learning and engagement.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
Receive direction from the Director of Counseling and SAS.
Exercise direct supervision over Interpreters employed by the college/Student Accessibility Services.

Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENTS:
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions:
- Coordinate day to day operations of Student Accessibility Services including but not limited to in-take interviewing, follow-up meetings with students as needed, scheduling test accommodations, and generally being a resource for all students with disabilities.
- Evaluate disability documentation from qualified professionals to determine student specific accommodation plans and consult with faculty, advisors, and administrators on implementation.
- Ensure compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
- Possess knowledge and understanding in the areas of disabilities, disability laws and common academic accommodations.
- Assist with ensuring that College faculty and staff are well-informed about laws governing students with disabilities and the types of academic accommodations students may receive.
- Coordinate students’ academic, career, or personal support needs with the Advising Center, Counseling, Financial Aid, Career Services, or other student services departments.
- Collaborate with Advisors regarding student registration as needed.
- Analyze student academic difficulties and situations to determine the best course of action resulting in coordinating and monitoring the use of academic accommodations.
- Coordinate the provision of interpreting services for various stake holders.
- Coordinate all aspects of interpreter services including evaluating skills, recruiting, hiring, pay range and supervising part-time interpreters.
- Assist with the recruitment and hiring of Academic Aides.
- Schedule and complete contracts for Academic Aids and interpreters and verify time sheets for accuracy.
- Develop, implement, and update as needed the accommodated testing procedures at all CFCC campus locations.
- Assist in planning staff development to meet the needs of interpreting staff, as appropriate.
- Assist with preparing spreadsheet for location of students during emergency situations.
- Assist with preparing spreadsheets for students who have seizure protocol on file in SAS.
- Maintain current inventory of assistive technology devices and locations used on campus. Perform minor trouble shooting and coordinate repairs as necessary.
- Respect student confidentiality, maintain records, collect data, and prepare reports.
- Assist students with disabilities with activities such as obtaining information about the college and enrollment procedures.
- Assist in coordinating transition services for high school students/recent high school graduates with disabilities.
- Identify, investigate, and/or develop adaptive instructional materials and assistive technology for students with disabilities and train support staff and students in their use.
- Serve as a resource person for disability related issues.
- Collaborate with other areas of the college to address physical, academic, and electronic accessibility issues.
Other Important Functions:
- Facilitate collaboration through discussion and training.
- Effective time management.
- Ability to de-escalate conflict and mediate issues between students and faculty.
- Interpret and apply federal, state, and local policies, procedures, laws, and regulations.
- Assist with conducting trainings for faculty/staff in an effective and efficient manner.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with internal staff as well as external community partners.
- Assist with review and update the procedural manual.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
