Minimum Qualifications
-
- Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Marriage and Family, Clinical Mental Health, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution.
- Valid, active, and unrestricted North Carolina licensure as an LCMHC, LCSW, LMFT, LCAS, or other appropriate behavioral health license, or eligibility to obtain North Carolina licensure within six months of employment.
- Applicants holding associate-level licensure (e.g., LCMHCA, LCSWA, LMFTA) will be considered if they are in good standing with their respective state board and can secure external clinical supervision if not provided by the college.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to work or meet in the evenings and/or on weekends, with advanced notice.
- Strong interpersonal, counseling, and crisis response skills.
- Ability to manage multiple cases and priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Knowledge of student development theory and holistic support practices.
- Ability to analyze data and use it to inform decision-making.
- Ability to use productivity software, including a general knowledge of word processors and spreadsheets, the ability to send and receive email, and to complete and submit electronic forms.
- Employees are expected to perform essential computer skills (log on/off a computer, manage and organize files, print/scan forms using a copier, maintain and recall secure passwords and change password(s) routinely per College procedures).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Provide exceptional customer services with people internal and external to the institution.

- A minimum of 3 years of counseling, case management, student support, behavioral intervention, or related experience.
Position Description
|
The Counselor provides counseling, case management, crisis intervention, and student support services that promote student well-being, retention, persistence, and success. This position assists students in addressing personal, social, behavioral, and academic barriers that may interfere with educational achievement. The position also supports student outreach, behavioral intervention efforts, and institutional initiatives related to student engagement and success. This position may require day, evening, and occasional weekend hours and travel.
