Position Description

The Adjunct Faculty in Data Science and Analytics is responsible for delivering accessible and high-quality learning experiences in various settings, including classrooms, laboratories, clinical environments, and distance learning. The adjunct faculty member facilitates the learning process to promote student success. The faculty member maintains student support hours to provide and deliver academic interventions and success strategies to encourage student success, foster progression, and facilitate completion of credentials. They actively pursue professional development opportunities to integrate innovative and effective teaching and learning practices within their disciplines. The Adjunct Faculty in Data Science and Analytics participates in the institutional effectiveness process and college- and state-wide initiatives, including program reviews, outcome assessments, and data analyses, to continuously improve outcomes. They also complete necessary course documentation promptly and accurately. The faculty member contributes to the development of student and program learning outcomes, as well as to the design and implementation of courses and programs. Additionally, the faculty member is committed to upholding high ethical standards, ensuring the confidentiality of sensitive data, and actively promoting an inclusive environment that respects diversity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver accessible, high-quality instruction that enhances learning and promotes students’ understanding of course outcomes.
Instruct up to 13 contact hours per semester, in either curriculum, non-curriculum, or business and industry; prepare objectives, assignments, assessments, instructional and supplemental materials, grading standards, and attendance policies; develop, maintain, and refresh course syllabi; ensure the learning experiences align with program and student learning outcomes for the course.
Develop a learning environment that supports the educational success of all students through a variety of teaching methods and comprehensive instructional strategies.
Ensure availability for all students by maintaining established student support hours, offering appointments as needed, and responding to electronic communication promptly and appropriately.
Maintain and complete accurate documentation of student attendance and grades as indicated by institutional policy and procedures, and submit required course documentation accurately and promptly.
Facilitate students’ understanding of the importance of personal and career-oriented skills and their crucial role in achieving success in life, college, and the workplace.
Contribute to curriculum development by creating new courses and updating existing course content and student learning outcomes; offer recommendations for course textbooks, supplies, software, and equipment; provide valuable input into developing the program’s course sequence and schedule.
Engage in the institutional effectiveness process and college- and state-wide initiatives, such as program review, grants, the College’s Strategic Plan, NC Guided Pathways, and the College’s regional accreditation.
Demonstrate proficiency in student learning outcomes assessment, including aligning learning experiences with desired outcomes, conducting assessments to measure these outcomes, and analyzing resulting data to enhance student learning.
Collaborate with other divisions and departments to align comprehensive credit and non-credit courses and programs where appropriate.
Complete required professional development activities annually, including College training.
Champion the College’s retention, progression, completion, and inclusion initiatives, ensuring social and economic success for all learners.
Support the College’s mission, vision, and core values by adhering to all policies and procedures.

Related Responsibilities:

Participate in advisory, standing, and ad hoc committees and focus groups; research and develop recommendations related to educational pathways, courses, policies, and procedures; foster and sustain collaborative relationships with businesses, industries, community stakeholders, and professional organizations to confirm educational pathways and courses remain current, relevant, and aligned to workforce needs.
Engage in the College’s recruitment effort by reviewing and providing recommendations for program publications, the College’s website, social media, marketing materials, and other community relations activities and events to enhance the College’s outreach efforts.
Assist with the inventory management of programmatic or course equipment and assume responsibility for labs and other facilities designated primarily for the assigned program or course.

Required Education and Experience:

Master’s degree in data science, statistics, computer science, information systems, mathematics, business analytics, or a related field with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in data science, statistics, mathematics, or computer science disciplines from a regionally accredited postsecondary institution.
Minimum 2-3 years of professional experience in data analysis, data science, or related industry applications.
Demonstrated experience with statistical software and programming languages (Python, R, SAS, SQL, Excel, etc.).
Verified experience with data visualization tools and techniques (Tableau, PowerBI, etc.).
Knowledge of database management and data warehousing concepts.

Preferred Education and Experience:

Industry certifications in data analytics platforms (Tableau, Power BI, SAS, etc.).
Experience teaching in community college settings.
Professional experience in business intelligence, Artificial intelligence, machine learning, or predictive analytics.
Familiarity with cloud-based analytics platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
Experience working with real-world datasets and business applications.
At least one year of community college teaching experience.
At least one year of experience teaching distance learning using videoconferencingtoolslike MicrosoftTeams,Zoom,Collaborate,etc.
At least one year of experience working in a Learning Management System (OpenLMS, Moodle, Canvas, Blackboard, etc.).
At least one year of experience working with Watermark Student Success and Engagement (Aviso Enterprise) software.
Completion of the Applying the Quality Matter Rubric course, Quality Matters Teaching Online Certificate, or other online course development certification.

Surrounding/Environment:

The Adjunct Faculty in Data Science and Analytics should be able to work effectively in an office or learning environment, typically indoors, with moderate noise levels and away from the elements. The faculty member works closely with others, both online and in person, and may have irregular hours. The faculty member must maintain the working environment by ensuring the proper functioning of equipment and supplies, maintaining overall cleanliness, and ensuring conformance to OSHA standards to provide a safe work environment.

Physical Effort:

Physical and marginal functions require the ability to maintain a physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include standing, walking, or sitting for extended periods, moderate lifting and carrying, general manual dexterity, operating assigned equipment, and prolonged exposure to computer screens. The employee may occasionally move up to 15 pounds.

The Adjunct Faculty in Data Science and Analytics must make sound decisions using good judgment, demonstrating intellectual capabilities, working with numbers, and maintaining confidentiality where appropriate, while evaluating programs, courses, services, and personal effectiveness.

Schedule:

This position may require the adjunct faculty member to be present online, on campus, or at a medical, business, or industry location for teaching, learning, or administrative responsibilities in accordance with the College’s Curriculum Faculty Workload Policy.

Travel:

Local travel between campuses, regional medical, businesses, and industry locations may be required.
