Minimum Qualifications
- Master of Science in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution.
- Possess a current unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse in North Carolina.
- Two calendar years or the equivalent of full-time clinical experience as a Registered Nurse.
- Three years of direct Diploma, Associate or Baccalaureate degree Nursing program experience.
- Support the success of assigned programs.
- Skilled in the use of office and classroom/lab technologies.
- Ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctorate in Nursing
- Prior leadership experience at a community college
- Experience supervising health science programs
Position Description
General Function:
Under limited supervision, the Dean of Health Sciences provides leadership and general supervision of Brunswick Community College’s Health Sciences division. This position reports to the Vice President of Academic Affairs. The Dean functions as a 12-month administrative faculty member and is responsible for providing vision and oversight for all programs within the division. The position provides classroom and lab instruction at the Dean’s teaching load. This individual is also responsible for health programs planning, the day-to-day operations of the division, as well as ensuring that high-quality, student-centered learning remains central to all courses and programs within the division.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Set a climate for positive growth among faculty and staff by supporting the goals and objectives of the departments, the division, and college.
- Provide collaborative leadership and guidance for all programs within the division.
- Recruit, hire, orient, and provide success plans for direct reports, faculty and staff.
- Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate programs of study while ensuring accreditation and compliance mandates are met.
- Oversee assessment of program level outcomes and discipline level accreditation processes pertinent to the departments.
- Identify new programs and course offerings.
- Manage instructional processes through collaborative planning.
- Foster a collegial relationship among colleagues and partners.
- Provide leadership to the Health Sciences programs and associated advisory committees.
- Facilitate and maintain relations necessary to provide clinical settings for students in the health programs.
- Collaborate with Continuing Education to identify initiatives that support the success of assigned programs.
- Partner with senior institutions to create and sustain articulation agreements and bridge programs.
- Work with community partners, schools and peer institutions to meet their needs and strengthen assigned programs.
- Actively represent assigned programs in the Health Sciences programs in the College’s planning, decision-making, and budget development and management processes.
- Oversee and assist program directors in the budgeting process.
- Identify grant opportunities that advance instruction, director/faculty professional development, new technologies, innovations, and student learning initiatives
- Teach courses and provide instruction in Health Sciences programs.
- Support the student access, success and completion agenda.
- Commit to a student-centered and student success learning environment and comprehensive community college mission.
- Serve as a faculty advisor and maintain office hours.
- Hear student appeals and settle disputes between students and instructors.
- Participate in ongoing professional development.
- Participate in various committee assignments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
