Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution
- Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising, nonprofit administration, advancement, grant coordination, financial management, or related work.
- Demonstrated experience working with non-profits, community organizations, boards, or public-facing initiatives.
Special Requirements:
- Possession and ability to maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Consistent travel in the service area and contiguous counties.
- Ability and availability to work evening and weekend hours for Foundation and community events.
- Must be able to pass a comprehensive background screening, which may include criminal history, credit history, and other checks related to financial integrity.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
- Experience working with a community college, higher-education Foundation, or nonprofit board.
Position Description

Under limited supervision, the Director of Advancement leads the College’s fundraising, donor relations, Foundation operations, and grant coordination efforts. The Director develops and implements fundraising strategies; manages donor engagement, events, and stewardship; and oversees the administration, budgeting, and regulatory compliance of the MCC Foundation. The role also supports internal grant development, represents the College in the community, and works collaboratively with College leadership and the Foundation Board to advance the College’s mission and strategic priorities.
Reports directly to the Vice President, Strategic Initiatives and does not exercise supervision of personnel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Fundraising and Donor Relations
- Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan which includes annual and multi-year fundraising goals and a detailed work plan to accomplish goals.
- Develop, direct, and execute resource development activities including endowment growth, major fund acquisition, annual and direct mail campaigns, major gift initiatives, special fundraising efforts, and planned, deferred, and capital giving programs.
- Manage donor records, process donations, and prepare acknowledgment letters.

Foundation Event Planning and Coordination
- Planning and launching events that will engage, inform, and recognize prospective and existing donors, alumni, corporate partners, and community leaders.
- Plan and manage Foundation events and all associated logistics, including meetings, fundraisers, recognition events, award programs, venue selection, catering, and event marketing.
- Ensure events align with the Foundation’s goals and the mission of the College.
Engagement
- Work with college leadership and the Foundation Board to educate the public as to the College’s mission, vision, goals, and opportunities to support the College.
- Represent the Foundation at community events and serve as a liaison to local businesses and community organizations.
- Raise awareness of the Foundation’s impact on the College and community.
- Partner with division staff to enhance campus and alumni engagement and build a supportive community network.
Grants
- Serve as the institutional liaison, and subject matter expert for recurring and routine grant opportunities, maintaining relationships with funding agencies, program officers, and community partners while monitoring eligibility, application cycles, and institutional needs.
- Prepare or contribute to grant proposals that support fundraising or institutional initiatives.
- Support faculty and staff in grant development by sharing training opportunities, best practices, and funding alerts, and by directing writers to relevant data, budgeting resources, and compliance contacts.
Administrative Functions
- Develop and implement an annual plan and operational strategies for the Foundation, which align with the College’s mission and strategic plan.
- Manage award and disbursement of Foundation funds, including scholarships in coordination with the Financial Aid Office.
- Work with college administrators and key program staff to identify priority areas and strategic opportunities for funding, including alliances and collaborations with individual donors and industries.
- Maintain a system of financial accounting and record keeping consistent with published regulations for the MCC Foundation.
- Prepare proposed annual operating and special events budget for the MCC Foundation.
- Prepare cost analysis figures and reports the financial condition of the MCC Foundation as requested by the President.
- Prepare or facilitate the preparation of the MCC Foundation Audit.
- Maintain an up-to-date record of Foundation owned horses to include inventory, income and expenses incurred.
- Prepare various reports for the NCCCS Office, Office of the State Controller, Office of the State Auditor, and the Board of Trustees as required.
- Formulate internal controls, policies, and procedures relating to the MCC Foundation. Report discrepancies to the MCC Foundation Board.
Other Important Duties
- Participate in training as required.
- Serve on college committees.
- Represent the College in the community by serving on local boards and participating in initiatives that align with the College’s mission and strategic plan.
