Minimum Qualifications
REQUIRED LICENSING:
- Current General Instructor certification by North Carolina Department of Justice, Training, and Standards Division
- School Director Certification or ability to earn certification within 2 months of employment
- Valid North Carolina Driver’s License
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (A, B, or C ):
Minimum: High School Diploma/Equivalency (recognized by the issuing state) AND five years of practical experience as a criminal justice officer or as an administrator/specialist in a field directly related to the criminal justice system. At least one year of the required five years’ experience must have been while actively participating in criminal justice training as a Commission-certified instructor;
OR
(B) Associate’s degree AND four years of practical experience as a criminal justice officer or as an administrator/specialist in a field directly related to the criminal justice system. At least one year of the required four years’ experience must have been while directly participating in criminal justice training as a Commission certified instructor;
OR
(C) Bachelor’s degree
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree
Specialty instructor certifications (i.e. Firearms, SCAT, Hazardous Materials, Physical Fitness)
Position Description
Job Duties
- Plans, develops, implements, and administers the Basic Law Enforcement Training program and Criminal Justice In-Service programs
- Ensures programs and courses are current and in compliance with North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards
- Responsible for recruiting, interviewing, and orienting part-time faculty for the program areas; Assists in recruiting and training qualified instructors for BLET and in-service courses
- Coordinates approved course outlines, textbooks, materials, supplies, and facilities
- Provides each instructor with a current commission-approved course outlines and explains the duties and responsibilities
- Coordinates the evaluation of instructors
- Coordinates instruction for on-campus and off-campus instruction
- Works collaboratively with law enforcement agencies to evaluate course content for relevance and to develop new courses
- Coordinate advisory committee membership and meetings
- Responsible for recruiting, interviewing, and coordinating background checks on potential BLET students
- Maintains the code of student conduct and reports issues to senior administration and employers
- Assists in the placement of graduates
- Establishes and/or maintains robust, positive partnerships with law enforcement agencies. Maintains positive relationships with law enforcement agencies
- Maintains strict compliance with NC Law Enforcement Training and Standards Commission record keeping and other state, federal, and college standards
- Assists in the planning, budgeting, and use of departmental funds
- Identifies needs and develops plans and projections for future academy growth or organizational improvements
- Maintains accurate records for the college, auditors, training and standards, and SACSCOC
- Oversees the maintenance and procurement of the equipment required for quality instruction
- Monitors compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and institutional accreditation
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
