- Must hold an associate’s degree from an accredited institution in landscape gardening, horticulture, turfgrass, or related discipline.
- Experience in program recruitment, assessment, scheduling, and program development.
- Possess a strong commitment to the mission of community colleges.
- Have excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Have an appreciation of the value of collegiality.

- Bachelor’s or graduate degree in landscape gardening, horticulture, turfgrass management, education, or related field.
- Professional experience in golf course and turfgrass management.

Summary

The Director and Instructor for the Greenkeeper Apprenticeship Program (GAP) is responsible for program administration, instructional delivery, outreach, and compliance. The position supports workforce preparation in turfgrass management through classroom instruction, hybrid delivery, and on-site apprenticeship experiences at golf course facilities. Instructional duties will include instruction and leadership of the USGA Greenkeeper Apprenticeship Program using a variety of delivery modes: traditional classroom, online, and hybrid. Additional duties include participation on college committees and performing support duties as assigned by the department head.

- Provide instruction for Golf Course Technician courses and related work-based learning courses using traditional, hybrid, and online delivery modes.
- Design, update, and maintain curriculum, syllabi, lesson plans, and assessments aligned with college and accreditation standards.
- Supervise and support apprentices at partner golf course facilities and ensure student performance and safety.
- Administer the USGA Greenkeeper Apprenticeship Program, including compliance, assessment, scheduling, and reporting.
- Recruit, market, and promote the program locally, regionally, and nationally in collaboration with industry partners.
- Maintain accurate academic, attendance, and performance records for students and apprentices and submit reports in a timely manner.
- Supervise, coordinate, and provide instructional support to adjunct and specialty-topic instructors supporting GAP and related Workforce Continuing Education agriculture offerings.
- Coordinate partner-site logistics for apprenticeship placements (e.g., scheduling, site readiness, communication, and documentation) in collaboration with golf course partners and the USGA.
- Support partnership maintenance activities, including coordination for USGA-related meetings, trainings, and events as assigned.
- Prepare class schedules that allow students the opportunity to complete the program in a timely manner.
- Assist with recruitment of new students and support Workforce and Applied Programs engagement initiatives (e.g., Career Exploration events, FunFest).
- Oversee ordering of program supplies, equipment, textbooks, technologies, and visual aids, as appropriate.
- Engage in outreach, STEM youth programming, and industry partnership development.
- Represent Sandhills Community College and the USGA at professional meetings, conferences, and events.

Supervision of adjunct instructors brought in to teach specialty topics or additional programs that may be offered under Workforce Continuing Education Agriculture course offerings. Supervision of approximately 5 adjunct periodic instructors.
