Minimum Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN): Must hold an active, unencumbered RN license to practice in North Carolina.
  • Professional Experience: At least two years of nurse-related work experience (minimum 4,000 hours), particularly in long-term care or similar healthcare environments.
  • Teaching Experience: Demonstrated experience teaching in a community college setting or equivalent teaching or training experience in healthcare education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN): Advanced nursing degree preferred.
  • Supervisory & Budget Experience: Prior experience in a leadership role, with a proven track record of managing teams and budgets in an academic or healthcare setting.
  • Program Development: Experience developing and managing healthcare-related training programs, particularly within a community college or continuing education environment.

Position Description

Under the supervision of the Dean of Workforce Readiness, Health & Public Safety, the Director of Allied Healthcare Programs will lead, manage, and instruct courses in the Allied Healthcare program, including Nursing Assistant (NA) classes and other healthcare-related programs. The director is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations, ensuring compliance with state regulations, managing faculty, and supporting student success. This position requires hands-on involvement in curriculum development, resource management, faculty supervision, and community outreach across multiple campuses, including Franklin, Main, South, and Warren.

This position is assigned to the VGCC Henderson Campus; although, some travel to other counties in the college’s service area is possible. Consistent with VGCC’s Teleworking Policy after the completion of the probationary period, this position will have the opportunity to telework one day per week, contingent upon the needs of the department.

Essential Duties:
  • Oversee development, scheduling, and delivery of Allied Healthcare programs (NAI, NAI Refresher, NAII, Medication Aide, Phlebotomy, Dialysis Technician, etc.).
  •  20% of the Director of Allied Healthcare time will be teaching.
  • Administer Nursing Aide Training Program in accordance with NC DHHS and NCBON regulations, ensuring all programs meet state and institutional standards.
  • Secure and maintain necessary materials, supplies, and equipment for effective classroom and clinical instruction.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with clinical sites; coordinate student rotations, background checks, and health screenings.
  • Oversee clinical training to align with program objectives, providing oversight of students and instructors during clinical sessions.
  • Hire, orient, and evaluate part-time instructors, ensuring adherence to teaching standards.
  • Provide mentorship and feedback to instructors, fostering professional development and teaching excellence.
  • Serve on assigned committees as required.
  • Assist with recruitment, registration, and orientation of students, ensuring preparation for courses and clinical training.
  • Monitor student progress, provide guidance, and ensure students meet program requirements and achieve certifications.
  • Design, evaluate, and revise curriculum in accordance with NC DHHS, NCBON, and NC Community College System guidelines.
  • Collaborate with community partners and healthcare providers to promote programs and build industry relationships.
  •  Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote the Allied Healthcare programs through digital platforms, social media, local community events, and partnerships with healthcare organizations.
  • Maintains on-call responsibility to all programs as needed.
  • Work with the college’s marketing and communications team to create engaging content, including brochures, flyers, and web updates, that highlight program benefits, career opportunities, and success stories of past students.
  • Assume all other duties as assigned by the Dean of Workforce Readiness, Health & Public Safety.

Salaries are determined based on a candidate’s relevant years of experience and the highest degree earned. A candidate with the minimum required years of experience and the minimum degree necessary for the position would receive an offer at the lowest end of VGCC’s salary range. To be eligible for the highest salary within VGCC’s range, a candidate must have a doctorate and over 25 years of experience related to that position.
