Minimum Qualifications
Master’s of Science in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
Two (2) years’ full-time experience as a faculty member in a board approved nursing program.
Meet the education requirements for Nurse Educations as outlined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing within the first three years of employment, which includes preparation in teaching and learning principles for adult education, including curriculum development, implementation and evaluation appropriate to assignment. This preparation may be demonstrated by one of the following: (1) completion of 45 contact hours of continuing education courses; (2) completion of a certificate program in nursing education; (3) nine semester hours of graduate course work; (4) national certification in nursing education; or (5) documentation of successful completion of structured, individualized development activities of at least 45 contact hours approved by the NC Board of Nursing.
Current knowledge of nursing practice for the registered nurse and the licensed practical nurse.
Current unrestricted RN license in North Carolina (continuation of employment contingent upon verification of current North Carolina Registered Nurse license).
Health Care Provider CPR – Adult, Infant, Child.
Valid NC Drivers; License
Preferred Qualifications
Two (2) calendar years, or the equivalent, of full-time clinical practice as a registered nurse.
Teaching experience at the community college or university level.
Leadership experience.
Position Description
Occupational Summary
The Director of Nursing Programs is a 12-month Faculty position that is directly responsible and accountable for ensuring the fulfillment of educational goals and objectives, and program compliance with SACS standards as well as maintaining full approval through the North Carolina State Board of Nursing and the National League of Nursing (NLN) programmatic accreditation for both the Associate Degree Nursing and Practical Nursing programs. These responsibilities require leadership in workforce areas and include meeting student retention goals; directing and participating in educational planning; program organization; staffing, training and supervision of both full-time and part-time faculty; evaluating program faculty and student performance; motivating and advising students; clinical site development and partnerships; managing the fiscal and financial resources of the programs operations and goals and generating reports as needed. The Director teaches as designated by the Dean.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensures compliance with the North Carolina Board of Nursing and NLN accreditation requirements to maintain quality and integrity of nursing programs
- Recruits, hires, and evaluates full-time and adjunct nursing faculty
- Creates, maintains and assigns the course schedules for all ADN and PN nursing classes
- Ensures availability of current and consistent course guides and syllabi
- Selects and recommends instructional materials and equipment pursuant to established departmental budgets
- Updates the Dean of Health Sciences on challenges, issues and concerns of the Nursing programs and area health care providers and suggest opportunities for the College to continuously enhance its service in Nursing
- Evaluates and revises all processes and policies related to Nursing, including but not limited to admissions, testing, attendance and conduct
- Establishes and maintains a positive, effective working relationship with students, staff, faculty, institutional representatives and other stakeholders
- Secures and maintains clinical affiliations with area health care facilities and ensure student compliance with pre-clinical requirements
- Performs basic faculty functions including curriculum design, development, and evaluation; teaching; identification and assessment of appropriate student learning outcomes; student advising; and institutional and professional service
- Reviews and edits Student Handbook annually
- Promotes community awareness of program opportunities
- Seeks opportunities to market the Nursing Program to individuals, groups, and industry leaders
- Participates on college committees as requested
- Performs other job-related duties and projects as assigned in support of the College’s mission, core values and goals

- Comprehensive knowledge of nursing concepts, theories, and practices with the ability to use in complex and/or difficult situations as it pertains to the departmental focus
- Current trends in nursing education and administration and new nursing program development
- Curriculum and program development processes and techniques for nursing programs
- Academic and business workings of a higher education institution
- College educational philosophy and management and administrative practices and procedures; college curricula and instructional programs
- Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) accreditation and North Carolina Board of Nursing standards as it relates to areas of responsibility
