Minimum Qualifications

Completion of a bachelor’s degree in business administration, entrepreneurship, accounting, or marketing, preferred three (3) years of experience, or an advanced degree in business administration, entrepreneurship, accounting, or marketing. Experience in business operations, incubation, small business counseling or coaching, economic development, and/or providing technical assistance to client companies preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

· Knowledge of the factors that impact small businesses in rural, north-central North Carolina (geographic, economic, workforce, et cetera).

· Knowledge of accounting software.

· Skilled in business operations, incubation, small business counseling or coaching, economic development, and/or providing technical assistance to client companies.

· Skilled with social media and webinar technologies.

· Ability to build relationships with businesses, private entities, chambers, corporations, and entrepreneurial communities.

· Ability to work independently, with good interpersonal skills.

· Ability to display initiative and demonstrate professionalism; be a self-starter.

· Ability to handle multiple projects and meet assigned annual metrics.

· Ability to demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills, public speaking, and training skills.

· Ability to maintain and implement Small Business Center Network (SBCN) budget requirements.

· Ability to organize and operate a variety of entrepreneurship and loan programs.

· Ability to market through various avenues

Preferred Qualifications

Position Description

Under the general direction of the Dean, apply leadership and management to the overall operation, and promotion of programs and services; and foster increased economic impact for small business in the service area. Authorize and be responsible for developing, planning, organizing, directing and overseeing services for small businesses in the Person/Caswell Counties service area. The purpose of this position is to provide business counseling and targeted skills training for small business owners. This position also represents and advocates for small businesses in the community with associated civic and community organizations and financial institutions.
Examples of Duties:

Essential Duties

· Establishes and maintains partnerships with local, regional, and state funding sources for entrepreneurship development (e.g., Carolina Small Business Development Fund, NC Rural Center, etc.).

· Accesses, plans, implements, delivers, and evaluates timely educational programs that meet the needs of the small business community.

· Provides start-up, financial and other business counseling services to existing and prospective small businesses located in Person and Caswell Counties and, if needed, makes appropriate referrals to resource agencies and/or individuals.

· Develops and maintains a collaborative network with chambers of commerce, volunteer consultants from the business community, businesses and trade associations, economic development agencies, banks, financial leaders, and others.

· Maintains a resource information center on-site and updates materials for prospective and current clients.

· Prepares, completes, and accounts for SBC Annual Program Report, due on July 31 of each year.

· Maintains a rapport with the local business community and stays knowledgeable of their training needs.

· Maintains up-to-date Client Management Services (CMS) information including registration of seminar attendees, event listings, counseling notes, economic development impact, counseling, and seminar evaluations and /or any other information needed for SBC Annual Program Report.

· Supervises SBC training activities, instructors, presenters, and staff.

Additional Duties

· Promotes the SBC program and advocates for small business through presentations to communities and civic entities.

· Supervises any employees employed for the utilization of the Small Business Center.

· Other duties as needed.

· Reviewing work and ensuring quality standards

· Training staff

· Overseeing staff productivity

· Signing employee performance evaluations and time sheets

· Make recommendations on hiring, termination, and pay adjustments
