Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited College/University.
- A minimum of three years’ experience as a Paramedic.
- A minimum of two years of instructional experience at the Paramedic level.
- NC Level II Paramedic Instructor credential.
- NC Certified Level II Qualified Fire Instructor certification required.
- Ability to work flexible and non-traditional hours.
- Highly motivated and creative person.
- The ability to work independently or as a team is a must.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching in the Community College setting.
- American Heart Association credentials (if not, must be obtained within the first six months).
- National EMT Instructor.
- Fire, Rescue and Safety experience.
- Five years of field experience.
- Accreditation experience.
- Highly motivated and creative person.
- Ability to work independently or as a team is a must.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks/responsibilities in a timely manner and produce results relative to duties.
- Ability to travel as needed.
Position Description
The Director of EMS/Fire/Rescue is responsible for the development, implementation and administration of educational programs for area rescue squads, emergency medical agencies, fire departments and other organizations that require certification, re-certification, credentialing and other types of safety training with the College’s service area.
- Determine educational needs and interests of clientele relevant to EMS/Fire/Rescue and Safety.
- Supervise, coordinate, and evaluate all EMS/Fire/Rescue and Safety instructional staff.
- Plan, organize, promote, and deliver appropriate courses.
- Maintain and complete all documentation required by governing agencies (NC OSFM, NC OEMS, NC EM), pertaining to EMS/Fire/Rescue education programs offered through HCC.
- Ensure student registration, attendance, skills, and testing documentation is complete and accurate. Assist students with certification and credentialing needs in close coordination with the registrar’s office and other governing agencies.
- Provide for the accountability and maintenance of all HCC training equipment inventory. Make needed requests for equipment, repairs and upgrades necessary for the appropriate delivery of training programs.
- Serve as liaison for HCC in matters concerning EMS/Fire/Rescue at the local, state, and federal level. Assist in public information dissemination concerning EMS/Fire/Rescue and Safety.
- Develop, plan, teach and coordinate related emergency service topics.
- Assume teaching responsibilities as needed in the field of EMS/Fire/Rescue and Safety.
- Continue to develop professional skills by participating in advanced training, attending seminars, conferences, and workshops when appropriate.
- Perform all instruction-related duties in a timely manner and in accordance with the College’s mission, policies, and procedures, the North Carolina Community College System and appropriate accrediting agencies (as applicable).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
