Minimum Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree
· One year of related work experience within the past five years. Related experience includes industry-related career development work experience in business, industry, or labor; or as a coordinator of work-based learning (job-shadowing, internships, cooperative education, apprenticeships); or a career/academic advisor; or in school counseling.
· Evidence of successful administrative experience
· A minimum of one academic year of full-time teaching experience (or the part-time equivalent) or academic advising (or the part-time equivalent).
· Evidence of a career that includes:
o Effective problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills;
o Flexibility and a willingness to change;
o Open-mindedness, fairness and the ability to see multiple perspectives;
o A willingness to take appropriate risks, and
o A willingness to accept responsibility for professional and personal growth.
· Ability to communicate effectively.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office
Preferred Qualifications
· Bilingual in Spanish
· Master’s degree in education, human services, counseling, or a related field.
· Experience working within a high school setting.
· Experience working with dually enrolled high school/ college students (i.e. Career and College Promise).
· Experience working in a community college.
· A minimum of two years full-time direct work experience in academic advising and/or career counseling.
· Demonstrated innovation within the field of education

Job Description |
The Union County Early College Coordinator is a full-time, 12-month position located on the OCH Campus in Monroe, NC. Under the direction of the Director, Secondary Education Partnerships, the Early College Coordinator supports Union County Early College (UCEC) students in achieving success in their South Piedmont Community College (SPCC) courses and facilitates the relationship between UCEC and SPCC. Primary functions of the Early College Coordinator include academic advising, coordinating testing, scheduling, and registration for UCEC students, monitoring students’ progress and success, connecting students to college resources, and fostering relationships between UCEC, South Piedmont administration, and faculty. This position may also carry a teaching load and/or work in the Academic Advising Center.

Job Duties |
· Exhibit an uncompromising commitment to SPCC as a learning-centered college through the College’s mission, vision, values, core skills and learning outcomes.
· Serve as an advisor and provide registration and enrollment services for UCEC students as pertains to SPCC coursework
· Promote and support student retention efforts through early alert monitoring and outreach.
· Provide consistent and accurate communication with high school counselors and potential students regarding details related to SPCC registration and programs of study.
· Maintain accurate and adequate student records to assist in advising and registration at SPCC
· Meet with students and parents as needed for advising
· Serve as a liaison among students, parents, high school personnel and college personnel to assist students as appropriate
· Coordinate support services to help UCEC students succeed in college courses
· Serve as a liaison with college disability services coordinator and UCEC
· Arrange and assist with placement testing and test interpretation for UCEC
· Support early college testing efforts as appropriate
· Monitor and report student performance in SPCC courses
· Schedule and facilitate joint SPCC/UCEC faculty discussions
· Schedule and facilitate joint SPCC/UCEC administrative discussions
· Participate in short-range and long-range planning; conduct research and surveys to determine current effectiveness and future needs; updates, reports, and plans.
· Facilitate schedule building to blend high school and college schedules
· Facilitate curriculum planning to align secondary and postsecondary expectations
· Schedule college classes, coordinate facilities, and develop student plans of study for UCEC students
· Transfer end of semester grades to high school data managers for their records
· Confer with the Director of Secondary Education Partnerships, UCEC Principal, SPCC faculty and staff on a regular basis to assess student needs and develop solutions and services to meet those needs
· Continue professional development for the improvement of self and the program
· Teach assigned courses, as appropriate
· Assist in Academic Advising, as assigned
· Work collectively with the Secondary Education Partnership team
· Perform other duties as assigned
