Minimum Qualifications

The Purpose

The Education Instructor for Student Success & Outreach will teach a 50% load, determined by the chair/dean as part of the Education Instructional Team. This position will serve as the main point of contact for an assigned group of students to guide them to achieve academic success.

  • As an instructor in the Education programs, the primary purpose will be to sustain teaching performance at appropriate college levels for all assigned student populations (including qualified high school students) to include course loads, instructional technology, instructional materials, and innovative communication delivery in the Education discipline.
  • As the Coach, the duties will be to counsel, motivate, assess student needs, goals, and interests, and review prior academic experience. Coaches will use and review predictive analytical data to provide targeted outreach efforts to students who fall into an at-risk category. Coaches will provide a high level of customer service support and ensure students are made aware of all available college resources to assist them in achieving academic success. This position also provides field supervision, coaching, and ongoing support to learners.
  • Recruitment and Outreach: the primary purpose will be to guide prospective and current students with education pathway selection, attend recruiting events, and be involved in community events/committees.

What You’ll be Doing

  • Maintain mastery and currency in the fields of Education disciplines, participating in ongoing collaboration with other professionals to ensure continuity between course instruction and school practices.
  • Coordinate field experiences, practicum sites and supervise practicum students as assigned.
  • Perform record keeping function in the areas of attendance, student learning outcomes, student performance assessment, data collection, recruiting, coaching and reporting in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Conduct student advisement in the areas of academic planning and learning support.
  • Work with the Education faculty regarding retention initiatives for the Education programs.
  • Provide proactive and individualized career counseling and success coaching to a student caseload facilitated by an early alert/advising system powered by predictive analytics.
  • Provide field supervision, coaching, and ongoing support to learners in the Residency Licensure Certificate Programs.
  • Use Predictive Analytics to identify and provide proactive outreach to students connecting them to intentional intervention and student support activities by creating individualized Student Action Plans.
  • Design high-tech, high-touch supports utilizing Watermark.
  • Empower students to effectively communicate with faculty and student services and become better connected to resources and support services such as financial aid, career services, disability services and community resources.
  • Collaborate with other education faculty/coaches, design and implement a comprehensive, innovative recruiting program for the Education programs aimed at attracting the maximum number of students from the College’s service area who may benefit from the programs.
  • Maintain a comprehensive prospect list and will have ongoing follow up with these prospective students.
  • Coordinate with the college recruiter for admissions processes and procedures for high school students enrolling at the College under Career and College Promise.
  • Conduct regular recruiting visits to area schools (public, private, home, etc.) and other industry/community sites as appropriate.
  • Represent the Education programs by attending community events/activities and working closely with the College Recruiter to facilitate recruiting events targeted for Education programs.
  • Maintain a flexible schedule which may include some evenings, weekends, and travel.
  • Available to meet students at any campus location.
  • Assist with documentation needed for the Dogwood Health Grant.
  • Ensure compliance and confidentiality with all policies and procedures of the College, NC Community College System, and applicable State and Federal agencies.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in a wide variety of extra-curricula committee and campus support functions, which may include: faculty club advisor, scholarships, grants, campus marketing, accreditation, inter-institutional and system cooperative programs.
  • Collaborate with the Education faculty with program planning and support of Institutional Effectiveness and Program Assessments Plans.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited four-year institution with a concentration in Elementary and/or Special Education, or a closely related discipline. (An instructor must demonstrate 18 hours of Elementary and/or Special Education coursework or related areas at the Master’s level.)
  • Certification: Hold a current NC teaching license or be eligible to do so.

Experience
All persons must provide verifiable and relevant professional experience in a workplace setting or demonstrated instructional/teaching environment.

Knowledge and Skills
The ideal person will possess current knowledge of Elementary and/or Special Education or related fields, strong personal and professional integrity, good interpersonal skills, effective verbal and written communication skills, and a commitment to safety. They will demonstrate proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite or similar products, database systems, College email and website, and other computer applications associated with the position.

Physical Demands: The ability to perform all duties associated with the position including, but not limited to lifting, prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and operating or performing work with associated tools and machines.
