  • Valid North Carolina Electrical Contractor’s License.

  • Strong knowledge of electrical principles, safety standards, and NEC regulations.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively within departmental and cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior teaching or training experience.

  • Experience with both residential and commercial electrical systems.

  • Familiarity with instructional technology and simulation tools.

Position Description

Catawba Valley Community College is seeking a qualified and dedicated Electrical Instructor to provide classroom and hands-on instruction in a variety of electrical subjects. This position will support student learning across both high school and campus settings, focusing on career-ready skills and technical competencies required in today’s electrical industry.

Courses may be seated, synchronous, asynchronous, or hybrid. Maintain accurate records (such as attendance, grades, documentation for accreditation, etc.) and submit any corresponding reports according to departmental or college guidelines. Must be willing to travel to high school locations and work with high school students. Serve on various campus committees and/or as an advisor for student organizations.

Examples of Duties

Primary Teaching Areas Include:

  • Blueprint (Print) Reading

  • Residential and Commercial Wiring

  • Motors and Controls

  • Safety

  • National Electrical Code (NEC) Coursework

  • Instructional responsibilities will include lecture-based learning, hands-on laboratory experiences, simulation-based activities, and assessment strategies that prepare students for success in both academic and workforce environments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging instruction through lecture, lab, demonstration, simulation, and multimedia.

  • Teach courses at high school locations and on the CVCC campus, as assigned.

  • Utilize college learning platforms including Blackboard, Web Attendance, and the college Portal.

  • Provide student support through regular office hours, timely communication, and academic advising.

  • Participate in curriculum development, program assessment, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Maintain instructional equipment, tools, and lab safety standards, including OSHA compliance.

  • Engage in college-wide committees, departmental meetings, and professional development.

  • Maintain accurate records for attendance, grading, and program reporting.

  • Stay current with industry trends, instructional techniques, and code updates.

Supplemental Information

Physical Conditions: Classroom environment; work closely with others; may be exposed to hazardous laboratory substances.  Frequent walking, standing, and sitting for prolonged periods of time.  Frequent communications, verbal and written.  Medium work: requires the ability to exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
