Job Summary

Mitchell Community College is seeking a qualified instructor to deliver training in Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) installation and related electrical coursework within the Continuing Education division. This position supports workforce development by preparing students for industry-recognized credentials, employment in electrical and energy sectors, and career advancement opportunities. The instructor may also deliver required continuing education (CE) training for licensed electricians in North Carolina.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Deliver EVSE (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment) training, including installation, maintenance, safety, and applicable codes and standards
Teach electrical-related continuing education courses aligned with North Carolina state requirements for license renewal
Provide instruction aligned with clearly defined learning outcomes, measurable skill attainment, and credential readiness
Support students in progressing through short-term workforce training pathways leading to employment or advancement
Maintain accurate and timely documentation of attendance, participation, and student progress in accordance with college, state, and federal (Workforce Pell) guidelines
Assist with student engagement and retention efforts, including early identification of attendance or performance concerns
Ensure all course delivery aligns with NCCCS standards, college policies, and financial aid compliance requirements (including attendance verification and satisfactory progress expectations)
Stay current with industry trends, code updates (NEC), and emerging technologies in EV and electrical systems
Provide hands-on and classroom instruction in a safe, engaging learning environment

Minimum Qualifications:

Demonstrated experience in electrical systems, installation and troubleshooting
Knowledge of current National Electrical Code (NEC) and industry standards
Ability to teach both classroom and hands-on technical content

Preferred Qualifications:

Active North Carolina Electrical License (Unlimited, Intermediate, or Limited)
Experience installing and/or servicing EVSE systems
Low-Voltage / Alarms installation experience
Prior teaching, training, or workforce development experience (community college or industry training preferred)
Familiarity with North Carolina continuing education requirements for electrical license renewal
Experience supporting adult learners in career pathway or credential-based training programs

Additional Expectations:

Ability to teach evening and/or weekend courses as needed
Commitment to workforce development and supporting adult learners
Willingness to assist in expanding EVSE and electrical training offerings

Support data collection efforts related to student completion, credential attainment, and employment outcomes.

Additional Information

Surroundings/Environment:

Instruction may occur in classroom, lab and field-based settings
Requires physical ability to demonstrate electrical and EVSE installation techniques

Physical Effort:

The work is sedentary in nature although includes periods of moving about the office or between buildings and locations. Work may require sitting for extended periods viewing a computer; and will require occasional movement of up to 15 lbs.

Scheduling:

This is a part-time position, working up to a maximum of 24 hours per week. Class hours may vary based on instructor’s availability to include day, afternoon or night classes.

Travel:

Local travel may be required, including between campus locations.
