  • Associate’s degree in Electrical Technology or related field required. 
  • Current North Carolina Electrical Contractor’s License or Journeyman-level credentials required. 
  • Minimum of five (5) years of directly related, verifiable work experience in the electrical trade required. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching or training experience, preferred. 

Position Description

Basic Purpose of Position

Under the direct supervision of the Associate Vice President for Continuing Education the Electrical Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality, hands-on instruction in the Electrical Continuing Education and Workforce Training programs in accordance with the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) standards.  The instructor will be responsible for assigned teaching duties and other related institutional activities.  This position will deliver courses designed to prepare students for employment in the electrical trade, enhance the skills of currently employed electricians, and ensure compliance with applicable licensing and safety requirements.  Instruction may include classroom theory, laboratory practice, and field-based training.  

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging instruction in basic and advanced electrical concepts, ensuring each course is organized and developed in alignment with National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) curriculum standards, approved course outlines, and established academic guidelines. 
  • Maintain up-to-date course outlines and objectives for each course to be taught and assist with the development of new courses.  
  • Plan and supervise hands on experience that relates to the NCCCER curriculum being taught.  
  • Ensure all instruction and activities comply with OSHA, National Electric Code (NEC) and North Carolina Community College Systems (NCCCS) guidelines for safety and instructional quality. 
  • Maintain classroom and lab equipment in safe operating condition; report maintenance or safety issues promptly. 
  • Collaborate with program coordinators, deans and other instructors to maintain program relevance and align training with current industry standards.  
  • Evaluate each student by keeping necessary records to provide the college with an adequate profile of each student. 
  • Continuously review and inspect student work for correctness.  
  • Assist in developing program budgets for supplies and equipment, and submit requisition information for the administration to order these items. 
  • Serve as an advisor to students as assigned and be available for advising of students within the program on all designated registration days, and as needed. 
  • Provide all required paperwork and classroom documentation to the program Coordinator. 
  • Collaborate with other College Workforce Training programs on the TCCC Sustainable Housing project. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Vice President of Continuing Education.

Secondary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in recruiting students to the program; promote the program to local industry partners and workforce boards.  
  • Attend all required college and departmental meetings. 
  • Maintain a professional development plan on a yearly basis.
  • Oversee the use, care, and inventory of instructional materials and equipment for the program and courses. 

Physical Demands and Work Environment 

  • Work is performed in classroom, lab, and/or shop environments.
  • Requires standing, bending, lifting equipment, and operating machinery.
  • Exposure to electrical hazards, power tools, and construction materials while following strict safety protocols. 
  • Protective clothing and safety equipment must be worn as required.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods during lab activities.
