Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates Degree or higher
  • 3 years of experience in emergency medical services or healthcare education.
  • Valid Driver’s license.
  • Valid NCOEMS Paramedic credential.
  • NCOEMS Level I instructor credential,
  • NCOEMS Level II instructor credential within 3-years of hire date.
  • AHA BLS, ACLS and PALS, and NAEMT PHTLS instructor credentials required within two years of hire date.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Prior experience in a clinical coordination or education role
  • NCOEMS Level III instructor credential.
  • Additional certifications in healthcare education or administration ie. specialty course instructor credentials.

Position Description

GENERAL FUNCTION:

The Clinical Coordinator is primarily responsible for overseeing and managing the clinical education component of the Brunswick Community College EMS Program, which includes curriculum and certificate EMS courses. Clinical education includes hospitals, clinics, EMS and other sites where our students complete their education. This role ensures that students receive comprehensive and effective hands-on training in real-world emergency and non-emergency settings. The Clinical Coordinator will collaborate with healthcare facilities, instructors, and students to facilitate clinical rotations, field and capstone rotations, monitor performance both in-person and through patient-care documentation, and maintain compliance with accreditation standards. The Clinical Coordinator will also assist in laboratory skills and scenarios, and didactic instruction as needed. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Placement Coordination:

 

  • Identify, establish, and maintain clinical sites, including hospitals, emergency medical services (EMS) agencies, and other relevant healthcare facilities.
  • Coordinate and confirm student prerequisite completion and ongoing compliance for access into clinical and field sites.
  • Schedule clinical placements for students in various healthcare settings such as hospitals, EMS agencies, and other relevant sites.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clinical sites and preceptors to ensure quality training experiences.
  • Ensure that clinical sites meet program and state requirements and accreditation standards.

Student Supervision and Evaluation:

  • Monitor student performance during clinical rotations, providing feedback and support as needed and addressing any student concerns or issues that arise during clinical placements.
  • Review completed clinical evaluation forms and paperwork and report back to student(s) with follow up questions and any necessary remediation plans.
  • Facilitate preceptor and student orientation to ensure a smooth integration into clinical settings.
  • Ensure that clinical competencies are met and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Coordinate with preceptors and clinical instructors to evaluate student progress and ensure a high standard of clinical education.

Curriculum and Compliance:

  • Collaborate with faculty to align clinical experiences with the educational curriculum and learning objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with program accreditation requirements and regulatory standards.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of clinical training materials and assessment tools.

Preceptor Relations:

  • Recruit, train, and evaluate preceptors who will mentor students during clinical rotations.
  • Provide training and support to clinical instructors and preceptors to ensure effective supervision and mentoring of students.
  • Provide ongoing support and communication to preceptors to ensure effective student supervision and learning outcomes.

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, evaluations, and clinical hours, and organize and archive end-of-course paperwork.
  • Prepare and submit reports related to clinical education and student performance.
  • Handle administrative tasks related to scheduling, documentation, and compliance.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, EMS Advisory Meetings, and contribute to program improvement initiatives

Program Quality Assurance:

  • Conduct regular evaluations of clinical sites to ensure they provide a safe and effective learning environment.
  • Gather feedback from students and clinical preceptors to assess and improve clinical training quality.
  • Implement strategies for continuous improvement in clinical education practices.

Professional Development:

  • Stay updated with current trends and best practices in all levels of EMS education (EMT, Advanced EMT and Paramedic), and clinical training.
  • Participate in professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge relevant to the role.
