The Purpose
The Emergency Medical Sciences Faculty serves the key role in teaching courses in the EMS program. He / She will also be involved in the community recognition initiatives needed for the sustainability of the Emergency Medical Sciences program at Blue Ridge Community College.

Examples of Duties
- Maintain mastery in the field of Emergency Medical Sciences / Services.
- Coordinate and report to the Chair of Emergency Medical Sciences concerning class management issues.
- Coordinate with the Clinical Coordinator on student readiness for the clinical experience.
- Advise and assist Emergency Medical Sciences students with registration and course planning with an emphasis on program completion and graduation.
- Coordinate with the Chair of Emergency Medical Sciences to schedule a minimum of two advisory council meetings per year.
- Establish and follow all course syllabi guidelines for the curriculum for the grading process, class content, online class instruction, class hours and attendance, and NCOEMS tasks.
- Ensure compliance with policies of the College, the NC Community College System, and applicable State and Federal agencies.
- Maintenance and oversight of the lab space and equipment in coordination with the Chair of EMS.
- May be required to attend training, workshops, or meetings outside of normal working hours to attain or maintain teaching skills and soft skills necessary to maintain professional relationships with faculty, staff, students, and community members.
- Monitor, evaluate, educate, and train the adjunct EMS instructional staff.
- Recruit at local high schools and other venues in the region.
- Establish and maintain a working relationship with local EMS systems.
- Plan, develop, Schedule, and teach CE courses as needed.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
An associate’s degree in a relevant field is required.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field preferred.
- Must be currently credentialed by NCOEMS or NREMT as a Paramedic
- NCOEMS Level I Paramedic Instructor required for the position. Candidates without the Level I Paramedic Instructor will be required to obtain it within 6 months of the next available NCOEMS Instructor workshop.
- Level II Paramedic Instructor preferred.
Skills and the Know-how
- A strong commitment to safety and the use of personal protective equipment.
- Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite or similar products, database systems, email, and the Internet.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, the ability to organize and prioritize workflow, the ability to meet deadlines, and the ability to work independently.
- Three years of full-time recent work experience as a paramedic.
- Experience with public safety agencies within Blue Ridge Community College’s service area preferred.
- Instructional experience is preferred.

The ability to perform all duties associated with the position, including, but not limited to, lifting, prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and operating or performing work with associated equipment.
