Education and/or Experience

Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in Business or related field, and 3-5 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

 

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

 

 

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Position Description

 

 

The Accounts Receivable Specialist is responsible for accounts receivable responsibilities that include, overseeing work of Financial Specialist, processing third party sponsorships, financial aid scholarships and awards, handling students’ accounts, completing the daily cash reconciliation and performing tasks required for an accurate accounts receivable system.

 

 

Example of Duties

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Answers accounts receivable phone inquiries, emails, and other communications.
  • Manage correspondence to customers as necessary in order to update accounts.
  • Manage debt collections process with the NC Department of Revenue and reconciliation of funds.
  • Work closely with Financial Aid Department to process refunds to students, verify General Ledger accounts and billing for reimbursement; Run FA transmittals for AR; Maintain scholarships accounts; and Process Return to Title IV/ pro-rata calculations
  • Tuition Remission Report; Attend training for and process 1098-T annually for all students
  • Manage company pre-pay/sponsorships (billing) and invoices to vendors
  • Work in Collaboration with VA Department on Campus to process VA benefits and billing
  • Serve as backup cashier
  • Evaluate AR screens to match with student proper balance
  • Attend training sessions as needed, and document/improve processes continuously
  • Process tuition and fee refunds after verifying the accuracy of refund amounts
  • Reviews online web payments, in-person payment methods, EFT on a daily basis
  • Maintain student records in accordance with laws and regulations.
  • Manages main Business Office Email for student and sponsor communication.
  • Works in collaboration with Finance Specialists – Cashiers.
  • Assists with related special projects, as required.
