Minimum Qualifications
Credentials required include NC OSFM Level II General Firefighter Instructor.
A minimum of (5) five years of work experience as a firefighter.
Intermediate experience in Microsoft Office Word, Outlook, and Excel. Communication, both oral and written, skills necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
Successful teaching experience in a community/technical college or similar post-secondary institution. Online teaching experience. Instructor credentials in American Heart Association BLS CPR.
Position Description
The Division of Continuing Education is seeking a full-time instructor to teach Fire & EM classes. Teaching assignments may include day, evening, online, hybrid, and lab-based sections. This individual will also participate in course and curriculum design, development of student learning outcomes and assessment, serve on college committees, maintain office hours, and fulfill all the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required. Flexibility and willingness to change depending upon the needs of the students or the institution. This position is set to begin in January 2025.
- Prepare and teach assigned courses following the course syllabus, seated or hybrid.
- Maintain accurate registration, attendance, and payroll records for each course taught.
- Prepare, review, and update the course syllabus regularly.
- Recommend and assist with curriculum revisions as necessary.
- Use formative and summative assessment techniques to improve learning and teaching.
- Create an effective learning environment and use teaching methods for various learning styles.
- Submit required reports and fulfill all contract provisions.
- Assist with maintaining a classroom environment emphasizing safety, good housekeeping, and equipment security.
- Maintain student, instructor, and staff confidentiality. Consistently monitor work area to ensure instructor and student data is protected according to Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations.
- Multi-task, prioritize and manage time effectively.
- Adapt and respond to changing work situations and environments in a positive manner.
- Participate in professional development activities designed to enhance job skills and knowledge, as agreed upon by the employee and supervisor.
