Minimum Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse with an unencumbered license in North Carolina.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and coordinate appropriate class offerings in the allied health arena
  • At least 2 years (4000 hours) or registered nursing experience in the United States.
  • At least 1 year (2000 hours) or registered nursing experience in the provision of long-term care facility services in the United States demonstrated by:
    1. Working in a long-term care facility licensed as a skilled nursing facility or a skilled nursing facility which is a distinct part of a hospital;
      OR
    2. Supervising or teaching students in a long-term care facility licensed as a skilled nursing facility or a skilled nursing facility which is a distinct part of a hospital.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a congenial and professional manner with students, faculty, staff and health care professionals

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
  • Certified Medication Aide Instructor

Position Description

Primary Purpose of Position

The Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day administration of nursing assistant classes and other allied health classes taught through Continuing Education, while ensuring programmatic content and quality.

 

This is a great opportunity for an RN who has strong knowledge and experience including working in skilled nursing facility or long-term care facility to coordinate the Nurse Aide Programming at Haywood Community College.  This is a 12 month staff position with minimum degree requirement of Associates Degree in Nursing.  See minimum qualifications for a list of additional requirements for this position.  

 

Essential Job Duties

  • Prepare and promote a schedule of classes
  • Secure and maintain sufficient and appropriate materials, supplies, books, equipment, audiovisuals, and other resources necessary for each course
  • Maintain and make available as needed up-to-date course objectives, outlines, and syllabi
  • Administers the Nursing Aide Training Program in accordance with NC DHSR guidelines and standards.
  • Coordinate program evaluation and maintain appropriate programmatic records
    Coordinate with other allied health and nursing faculty in the appropriation and utilization of classroom facilities,equipment and supplies, and clinical sites
  • Conduct classroom, lab, and clinical supervision consistent with course objectives
  • Advise students relative to academic concerns and career decisions
  • Be current on state and national regulations as they affect students and curriculum
  • Assist in the evaluation of policies for admission, progression, and graduation
  • Assist in the recruitment of students
  • Assist in the registration and orientation of students
  • Develop, supervise and instruct classes and instructors in the Allied Health Programs.
  • Instructs courses within Allied Health program as needed.
  • Study Community needs to guide organization of new courses.
  • Promote courses and disseminate information in the community.
  • Coordinate course schedules for health-related classes.
  • Manage and maintain equipment and supplies with inventory control.
  • Select, orient and supervise qualified part-time instructors.
  • Ensure the currency and appropriateness of books and materials.
  • Get appropriate approval from state agencies for instructors and facilities.
  • Develop contracts and agreements for required clinical experiences
  • Register classes and submit registration materials and fees in timely manner.
  • Draft contracts and other job-related information to instructors.
  • Responsible for course completion reports and attendance rosters submitted in timely manner.
  • Maintain current information on policies, procedures, new techniques, training requirements, and regulations to ensure that all training offered conforms to state and national protocols.
  • Work with the Dean of Workforce Continuing Education and the Vice-President’s Office to finalize contracts, Datatel course entry, time sheets and program quality
  • Operate college-owned vehicles.
