Minimum Qualifications
Required:
- Diploma in Electrical Systems Technology, or extensive work experience in a related field (5 years or more), and current industry certifications or licensures relevant to Electrical Systems.
- Two years of experience in the Electrical trade.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Degree in Electrical Systems Technology, Industrial Technology or bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering technology or related field.
- North Carolina Licensed Electrical Contractor (or equivalent in another state).
- NCCER Electrical/Electrician Instructor Certification.
- OSHA 10 or 30 Safety Certification.
- Teaching experience in a career and technical education (CTE) or apprenticeship setting.
- Current state or national Electrical/Electrician license/certification at the journeyman level or higher.
Position Description
Instructor, Electrical Systems Technology, responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in electrical theory and practice, monitoring student progress, and ensuring an engaging, hands-on learning environment. The instructor will utilize NCCER Electrical Curriculum (or equivalent) and provide training in residential, commercial, and industrial electrical systems, including wiring, circuitry, motors, controls, code compliance, and safety practices.
- Deliver engaging, industry-relevant electrical instruction in both classroom and lab/shop settings.
- Stay current with the National Electrical Code (NEC), safety standards, and emerging technologies in electrical trade.
- Foster a supportive learning environment through proactive student engagement.
- Assist with student recruitment efforts and promote program growth.
- Maintain and oversee electrical lab equipment, tools, and materials, ensuring safety and functionality.
- Serve as a mentor to students in your area of expertise.
- Provide career mentoring and career exploration opportunities.
- Facilitate the development of employability skills and workplace readiness.
- Coordinate industry visits, apprenticeships, and guest speakers.
Classroom Instruction
- Teach 18–22 contact hours per semester, emphasizing hands-on practice and real-world applications.
- Develop and deliver well-structured, engaging lessons aligned with electrical trade standards and industry practices.
- Provide timely, constructive feedback to support student learning and growth.
- Teach courses in residential, commercial and industrial electrical systems, blueprint reading, wiring, motors, code interpretation, and safety.
- As needed, teach classes online, on-campus, and/or at off-campus sites.
- Teach an academic success or work-based learning class as needed.
- Incorporate appropriate instructional technology to enhance student learning.
- Ensure cleanliness and safety in labs and classrooms.
- Ensure the proper operation of electrical tools/equipment; report any malfunctions.
- Participate in the evaluation and acquisition of instructional materials, audiovisual aids, and equipment needs.
- Develop and distribute course syllabi according to established guidelines, providing clear course expectations, evaluation criteria, and student support services.
- Participate in the evaluation and acquisition of instructional materials, audiovisual aids, support and equipment needs.
Other Services to Students
- Offer at least five office hours per week for student support and guidance.
- Act as a mentor, helping students navigate academic, technical, and career pathways.
- Participate in semester advising and registration activities as needed.
- Assist in the recruitment and retention efforts of the College.
- Advocate and motivate students toward success in the trades.
- Communicate students’ needs to the Program Head.

Other Duties Specific to this Position
- Provide and/or facilitate quality experiences in laboratory and/or clinical settings to meet program needs.
- Report any safety issues to the Program Head or the appropriate College official.
- Report any equipment maintenance needs in the labs to the appropriate Program Head or Dean.
