Minimum Qualifications

 

Must be 18 years of age and willing to enroll in college level EDU coursework within 6 month of hire.  Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Capable of relating to diverse age and demographic backgrounds. Physical ability sufficient to frequently walk, bend, stoop and lift up to 50 pounds.  Possess sound knowledge of the procedures and regulations specific to the care and education of infants and children. Possess a willingness to learn necessary skills and knowledge and to strive for continuous improvement. Demonstrate diplomacy, tact and professional demeanor.

10A NCAC 09.0710  PRESERVICE REQUIREMENTS FOR LEAD TEACHERS AND
TEACHERS states:

A lead teacher shall be 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or its
equivalent, and have one of the following:
(1) One year of child care experience working in a child care center or two years of
verifiable experience as a licensed family child care home operator; or
(2) Completion of a two year high school program of Early Childhood Education in
Family and Consumer Sciences Education; or
(3) Twenty hours of training in child development, which shall include the North
Carolina Early Childhood Credential coursework, within the first six months of
employment in addition to the number of on-going training hours required in Rule
.1103

Preferred Qualifications

 

In addition to above, possess an Associates Degree in Early Childhood, Birth-Kindergarten, or related field.  Minimum 2 years of experience in an Early Childhood setting. Professional level of educational theory, child development and teaching skills.  Pay is dependent on degree.

Position Description

 

The Lead Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing the daily program of activities for a group of children in the Regional Center for the Advancement of Children and to follow Child Care Standards to promote the health, safety, and well being of all children in their care.

 

The RCAC is a Lead Teacher in a 5 star child care facility on the campus of Haywood Community College.  We are seeking a Lead Teacher in the regular Pre-K class.  HCC participates in the state of NC Health and TSERS pension plans.  Facility hours are Monday – Friday.  We offer 13 paid holidays per year, sick/vacation leave accrual and other great benefits!

• Assesses program supplies and materials needed prior to implementing activities
• Supervise assistants, aides, and volunteers working in the classroom
• Maintains written plans in a weekly/monthly basis
• Assesses children’s needs and developmental progress on an ongoing basis
• Uses the results of assessment to plan activities
• Accurately maintains classroom budget
