Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
A demonstrated understanding and commitment to the open-door philosophy of the community colleges as well as a commitment to student learning is required. Qualified applicants must have a demonstrated competence in the application and use of MS Office. A demonstrated knowledge of education programming in a correctional setting is preferred. A demonstrated knowledge of budget management is valued as well as the ability to assess programming options relative to budget options in order to make strategic programming decisions. Qualified applicants must have skills in critical analysis and problem solving, and independent decision-making ability. Organizational and multi-tasking skills are an essential element of this position.  THIS POSITION REQUIRES FREQUENT WORK WITHIN A PRISON FACILITY and maintaining a security clearance allowing admission to prison facilities is required.

 

Minimum Education and Experience:
Master’s degree preferred. Bachelor’s degree required. A minimum of 2 years of progressive, management experience or equivalent is required. Experience dealing with the unemployed, under-employed, dislocated workforce, and/or justice-involved populations is required. Experience in a correctional education setting is preferred. Experience in curriculum or program development or similar experience is required.

Position Description

General Description:  The Coordinator of Correctional Programsunder the direction of the Dean of Adult Education and the general supervision of the Executive Vice President/Chief Academic Officer will oversee all College & Career Readiness and vocational courses while serving as liaison between correctional facilities and college.
 

Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:

    1. Plan, schedule and create classes in ADVANSYS and/or Colleague working with correctional educational staff and college instructors to ensure instructional and enrollment needs are met. 
    2. Complete faculty observations, class visitations, end of course documentation, and other required paperwork ensuring accuracy, data integrity and timely submission.
    3. Maintain, train, coordinate, supervise, and assist faculty/staff in the provision of quality instruction in compliance with NCCCS CCR and RichmondCC policies and procedures. 
    4. Maintain a thorough understanding of WIOA Title II programming, NRS requirements, and high school equivalency policies. 
    5. Design specialized and required courses including Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education (IELCE) and Integrated Education and Training (IET) programs. 
    6. Oversee and occasionally conduct required National Reporting System (NRS) testing and/or high school equivalency testing in the correctional setting, as needed. 
    7. Conduct personnel evaluations as required by the College. Assist in facilitating professional development, creation of goals, and monitor program performance, effectiveness, and feasibility. 
    8. Serve as the point of contact/liaison between prison and College staff. Attend all meetings required by the College and/or correctional facility and receive all requests for programming as determined by the correctional facilities.
    9. Maintain open and clear communication with Dean, make recommendations regarding programming with the goal of expanding opportunities to incarcerated adults while maintaining positive relations with correctional facilities. 
    10. Work closely with Adult Education team to meet programmatic goals and directives to include auditing of course records, data entry, ADVANSYS, and approvals.
    11. Other duties as assigned.
