Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Diesel and Heavy Equipment Technology from an accredited institution, or equivalent,
  • Trade certifications will be considered in lieu of degree
  • At least three (5) years of work experience in the trade
  • Organized and possess multitasking skills
  • Excellent oral, auditory, and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with diverse populations
  • Maintain high levels of confidentiality, credibility and professionalism
  • Hold a CDL “A” w/P endorsement for the last 3 years

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of teaching experience in the subject area.
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification

Position Description

Essential Duties—Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
 
  • Plan, create and maintain a classroom environment conducive to student learning.
  • Maintain relevant knowledge in the discipline and incorporate innovative and creative instructional techniques in the classroom.
  • Ensure that syllabi, instructor information, web attendance, and gradebook are posted to the college learning management systems (Moodle, Self-Service, Aviso) for all sections of all courses being taught each semester.
  • Establish and maintain effective and positive working relationships with students, other employees, and the public.
  • Support the college’s initiatives to enhance the critical thinking skills and global awareness of our students.
  • Effective advising and registering to promote retention and program/goal completion.
  • Hands-on experience with the methods, materials, tools, equipment, and practices of the diesel mechanics trade, the occupational hazards, and safety precautions of the diesel technician repair.
  • Practical knowledge in the use and care of tools and equipment employed in the Diesel Technician trade.
  • Recruit mentor, and evaluate qualified adjunct instructors (in conjunction with other full-time faculty members in the discipline, as appropriate).
  • Ability to project a professional and congenial demeanor.
  • Evaluate student work and ensure their compliance with safety standards.
  • Utilize instructional plans to direct and assess student progress in achieving theory and performance requirements of the program.
  • Initiate, develop and perform ongoing business and industry relationships to foster growth while interconnecting the program of study with the service area industry.
  • Assist with student recruitment for programs and the division.
  • Learner-centered, outcomes-based instruction is delivered via traditional classroom, interactive videos, and the internet.
  • Assist with documenting Student Learning Outcomes (SLO’s).
  • Assist with semester scheduling, textbook order, and reporting obligations for the program’s accreditation body.
  • Serve on division and college committees, as assigned, and attend required professional development activities.
  • Support of student organizations and other campus activities.
  • Maintain currency in the teaching discipline(s).
  • Additional duties as assigned.
