Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution is required, with a preference for a degree in education. Prior teaching experience in middle school, high school, Basic Skills, or Pre-Curriculum is also preferred. A valid North Carolina Driver’s License and a clean driving record that meets the requirements for insurability under Wayne Community College’s auto insurance policy are required. Candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills, being a self-starter and team player, and the ability to work collaboratively with others are required. Must have demonstrated organizational and multi­ tasking skills. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish, as well as a National Career Readiness Certificate are preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

Position Description

The instructional duties include teaching at a Department of Adult Correction facility, focusing on subjects such as reading, social studies, science, and mathematics to support students in preparing for their High School Equivalency diploma. The instructor is responsible for developing curriculum, maintaining accurate and timely records, participating in committees, and attending college-wide, divisional, and departmental meetings, as well as convocations and graduation ceremonies. Additionally, the instructor must complete the NC Basic Skills Core Credential within two years of the hire date and fulfill other required professional development annually. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
