Minimum Qualifications

· Associate’s Degree
· Experience teaching and/or training adult learners
· Effective written and oral communication skills
· Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office software applications, e-mail and internet research

Preferred Qualifications

· Minimum of one (1) year teaching experience at a community college and/or in a correctional facility
· Demonstrated high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
· Proven ability to deal effectively, cooperatively, and tactfully with program participants, correctional facility staff, college administrators, and faculty
· Personal and professional integrity that communicates a sense of mission, leadership, and an ability to be self-motivated
· An uncompromising commitment to student learning

Position Description

 
 
Job Description
The Human Resources Development Instructor position is a full-time position located at either Brown Creek Correctional Institution or Anson Correctional Institution in Polkton, NC. Under the direction of the Director of Human Resources Development, the Human Resources Development Instructor will be responsible for teaching Life Skills and additional HRD/Career Development courses.

Job Duties
· Teach organized courses in accordance with the Human Resources Development course descriptions
· Develop, update and implement curriculum and educational materials and methods used to advance learning in the classroom
· Organize and maintain class area, including physical facilities, equipment, inventory and materials in clean, neat operating condition
· Maintain accurate attendance records, student registration information and course paperwork
· Assist students with developing résumés, cover letters and job seeking/keeping skills
· Provide career counseling and career assessment
· Instruct keyboarding and the basic computer skills needed in the workplace
· Comply with college policies, internal audit procedures, and local and state rules and regulations
· Participate in faculty/department meetings, college-wide professional development training, committees and campus activities
· Participate in short-range and long-range planning
· Provide program participants and peers with a positive role model in terms of character and citizenship
· Adhere to correctional institution policies and procedures
· Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Human Resources Development, Associate Vice President for Business and Workforce Solutions, and the Vice President of Business and Workforce Solutions
 
In the event correctional facilities are closed to external partners, correctional instructional staff may be reassigned to teach at any of SPCC’s campuses or off-site locations. Additional reassignments may also include curriculum or program development and/or participation in professional development and training opportunities.
