Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Education, or a related fieldfrom a regionally accredited institution.
- One (1) year of experience teaching, training, tutoring, or leading professional development.
- Proven experience using a Learning Management System and classroom technologies (e.g., Google Workspace, MS 365, virtual meeting platforms, screen-recording tools, and third-party educational tools).
- Familiarity with Artificial Intelligence (AI)in education and workplace productivity.
- Working knowledge of ADA digital accessibility standards and accessibility checkers.
- Strong written and verbal communication, critical thinking, planning, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated customer-service mindset and professionalism when assisting faculty, staff, and students.
- Valid North Carolina Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with technical support for a major LMS(e.g., Moodle, Blackboard, Canvas, D2L).
- Experience with third-party educational tool integrations(e.g., Turnitin, Padlet, EdPuzzle, publisher platforms) and troubleshooting.
- Experience in a higher education or community college environment.
- Proficiency with audio and video editing tools for instructional use.
- Experience creating and maintaining instructional materials in multiple formats (print, graphics, video, multimedia).
- Demonstrated ability to produce and manage multimedia learning content (e.g., videos, webinars, podcasts, interactive modules).
- Online teaching experience.
Position Description
The Instructional Designer and LMS Support Specialist plays a key role in supporting high-quality, accessible, and engaging learning experiences across all instructional modalities. This position provides both instructional design expertise for course development and technical support for the college’s Learning Management System (LMS) and integrated educational technologies.
Working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and the Digital Teaching & Learning team, this position assists with course design and enhancement, ensures compliance with ADA and accreditation standards, and provides prompt, professional support through multiple communication channels (email, phone, ticketing system, videoconference, or in person).
Essential Responsibilities:
Instructional Design, Faculty Training, Collaboration, and Assistance, and Accessibility
- Partner with faculty to design, develop, and revise engaging, student-centered courses for online, hybrid, and face-to-face delivery.
- Review newly developed and current online courses using departmental forms and standards
- Maintain documentation of course evaluations, updates, and revisions to ensure quality assurance.
- Understand and troubleshoot third-party educational tool integrations, including all DTL tools integrated in Moodle
- Ability to effectively use Google Workspace, MS 365 products.
- Support the integration of multimedia and other technology tools into course content.
- Ability to effectively use and train others to use various tools to produce multimedia content (e.g., screen recording, audio recording, design platforms, H5P or other authoring tools, interactive lesson platforms, interactive whiteboards, collaborative tools, virtual meeting platforms, and third-party educational tools)
- Support and facilitate professional development sessions or workshops related to instructional design, eLearning tools, LMS updates, and digital accessibility.
- Conduct workshops, one-on-one consultations, and training on instructional design, online teaching strategies, and the use of educational technology.
- Develop and maintain user-friendly guides, tutorial materials, and other multimedia learning content for faculty and students in multiple formats (e.g., print, graphics, video, podcasts, interactive modules, etc).
- Ensure compliance with digital accessibility standards and run tests with digital accessibility compliance tools.
- Provide training on accessible design and accessibility checkers.
- Assist in the adoption of AI to create AI-enhanced learning experiences and enhanced AI literacy through the responsible and ethical use of AI systems and tools.
- Stay current with advancements in instructional technology and digital learning trends.
LMS & Technology Support
Completes the following as a backup to the LMS administrator:
- Provide technical and instructional support for the college’s LMS and integrated third-party tools.
- Create and manage course shells, user enrollments, and other system configurations.
- Support and troubleshoot login and access issues for faculty, staff, and students.
- Test, integrate, and maintain third-party tools and plugins to ensure smooth operation.
- Monitor LMS performance and escalate technical issues as necessary.
- Maintain system security and ensure data integrity when operating LMS and related environments.
- Serve as a backup to the LMS Administrator as needed.
Collaboration & College Engagement
- Serve on college committees as assigned and participate in campus events, training, and professional development.
- Perform other duties as assigned that contribute to the efficiency and success of the college’s instructional mission.
