Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate-level semester hours in Art or Art History.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in the discipline, e.g., MFA, MA Art Education.
Teaching experience in a community college setting.
Position Description
Provide quality learning opportunities that support students in achieving their educational and career goals. The instructor will be responsible for the integrity and effectiveness of the academic program. Primary teaching responsibilities include courses such as ART 111, ART 113, and ART 114/115, with additional assignments as needed. The instructor will be expected to contribute to the development, growth, and assessment of the program. The instructor will also oversee the college’s art gallery.
Curriculum and Instruction
- Collaborate with faculty and program chair on curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation.
- Develop and deliver course content, syllabi, and instruction across multiple modalities (day, evening, online, hyflex) and on multiple campuses (Tarboro and Rocky Mount).
- Follow course descriptions in the common course library, integrating advisory committee recommendations, marketplace needs, and other input.
- Implement active, learner-centered teaching strategies to promote student success.
- Maintain safe, orderly, and well-equipped instructional spaces.
- Arrange for acquisition, preparation, and proper storage of materials and equipment.
- Curate and oversee the college’s art gallery.
Student Support
- Advise and mentor students in achieving academic and career goals.
- Maintain office and advising hours and availability for student appointments.
- Provide support for all students.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Complete required administrative tasks accurately and on time (grades, enrollment reports, book orders, attendance, timesheets, etc.).
- Model professionalism, collegiality, and ethical conduct in interactions with students, peers, and staff.
- Participate in registration, orientation, and recruitment activities as assigned.
- Assist in the recruitment and mentoring of part-time instructors when requested.
Professional Engagement
- Participate in college committees, professional development, and campus activities (e.g., graduation, department meetings).
- Contribute to program assessment, accreditation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Engage in professional scholarship, creative activity, or community outreach to remain current in the discipline.
- Collaborate with community partners to meet regional, educational, and cultural needs.
- Model professionalism, collegiality, and ethical conduct in interactions with students, peers, and staff.
