Minimum Qualifications

The applicant must meet all SACSCOC faculty credentials for this position. Specifically: 

  • The candidate must hold a Master of Science in Biology or a related field. 
  • If the applicant holds a Master of Science in a related field, at least 18 graduate hours in biology are required.

 

The applicant must be able to work as part of a team and value collaboration; possess good teaching and organization skills; communicate effectively both in verbal and written expression; and possess an educational philosophy that is compatible with the mission of the community college. Copies of all unofficial degree transcripts, including coursework completed and degree conferred, must be provided during the online application process. 

 

Official transcripts are required to be forwarded to the ECC Human Resources Office upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications

Three to five years’ experience teaching college-level biology, preferably in a community college context. 

Teaching experience in traditional, hybrid, and online contexts.

Experience with curriculum review and assessment of outcomes. 

Experience with classroom technologies (e.g., Colleague, Moodle, Self-Service, Canvas, Starfish).

Position Description

TARGET START DATE: Monday, January 4, 2027

 

Provide quality learning opportunities that assist students in meeting their educational goals and career aspirations. Faculty are responsible for the quality of the educational program.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Teaching a broad range of biology courses (including Microbiology, Anatomy & Physiology, General Biology, and Developmental Biology) in accordance with established course syllabi and college policies.

 

Delivering courses across multiple modalities (Traditional, Hybrid, and Online) during day and evening hours at both the Rocky Mount and Tarboro campuses and for the full duration of scheduled instruction.

 

Maintaining and completing personal, course, and student records, reports, and forms (e.g., leave requests, grades, attendance, change of major forms) in a timely and accurate manner.

 

Advising a caseload of students.

 

Assuming responsibility for classroom and laboratory setup, maintenance, safety, and cleanup; and for recommending appropriate laboratory supplies, equipment, and instructional tools.

 

Preparing and grading class assignments and examinations (and promptly returning them to students) and maintaining attendance, scholastic and student records and submitting them according to departmental, divisional, and institutional policies and deadlines.

 

Posting and maintaining student office hours and being available for student appointments to advise, mentor, and assist students in achieving their educational goals.

 

Participating in departmental and divisional curriculum development, course revisions, textbook selection, and general education and student learning outcome assessments, while staying current with discipline advancements and engaging in pedagogical discussions.

 

Participating in professional activities (e.g., departmental and campus committee work, faculty peer evaluations, staff meetings and participation in the governance structure of the college).

 

Engaging in outreach activities with education partners (e.g., high schools, adult education) and industry advisory committees to support students and recruitment.

 

Assist part-time instructors when requested.

 

Performing other duties and special projects as assigned by the department chair, division dean, chief instructional officer, or president.

 

Note: Edgecombe CC comprises two campuses. It is anticipated that the office location for this vacancy will be in Rocky Mount.
