Minimum Qualifications
Education Required
- Associate’s degree in an Automotive/Diesel Heavy Equipment field from an institutionally accredited college/university.
- Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification as a Master Technician (Medium/Heavy Duty Truck [T2-T8]), or the ability to attain within 6 months of employment.
Experience Required
- Three years recent, relevant experience in a Diesel Heavy Equipment repair facility
- Teaching and/or industry training experience in diesel/heavy equipment topics in any of the following formats: teaching courses, training sessions, conducting professional development workshops, and/or other continuing education seminars
Preferred Qualifications
Education Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree from an institutionally accredited college/university.
Experience Preferred
- More than three years recent, relevant experience in a Diesel Heavy Equipment repair facility
- Post-secondary teaching experience in Heavy Equipment and Transport Technology
- Experience with assessment of student learning outcomes
- Experience with distance learning and/or alternate instructional delivery systems

Teaching faculty at Guilford Technical Community College are responsible for supporting student success by creating an optimum learning environment, responding to student needs, managing effective instructional activities, developing curriculum courses, modeling employability skills, demonstrating professionalism, developing cooperative work relationships with other faculty and staff, supporting college administrative requirements, and maintaining competency in their instructional field. He/she will be responsible for quality instruction and for effective participation and interest in the total affairs of the college.
Under general supervision, this individual will develop, prepare and teach courses within the department. Faculty will also be responsible for advising and recruiting students and collaborating with business and industry partners to provide necessary training and education. The faculty member must be able to demonstrate correct operation and supervise operation, in all or most of the following areas listed: pneumatics, hydraulic and electric power tools; engine diagnostics, repair and operation; heavy equipment repair & operation on all vehicular systems. Individual must understand and work within NATEF standards.
