Minimum Qualifications

Required:

  • Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Degree in Information Technology (IT) or a closely related field.
  • Two years of experience in an IT-related field.
  • Current Cisco CCST Networking or higher certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current Cisco CCNA Certification.
  • CompTIA Network+ or CompTIA A+ Certification.
  • Teaching experience utilizing Cisco Networking Academy materials.
  • Knowledge of current operating systems, virtualization, networking/security concepts, and computer upgrade/repair processes.
  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology or a related field

Position Description

Instructor, Information Technology delivering high-quality instruction in networking and IT-related subjects, monitoring student progress, and ensuring an engaging learning environment. The instructor will utilize Cisco Networking Academy materials and provide hands-on training in networking, operating systems, security concepts, and computer upgrade/repair processes. The primary instructional location for this position is a local high school.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Deliver engaging, industry-relevant instruction in both seated and online formats.
  • Stay updated with emerging technologies to ensure course content remains current.
  • Foster a supportive learning environment through proactive student engagement.
  • Assisted with student recruitment efforts and promoted program growth.
  • Maintain and oversee lab equipment, ensuring safety and functionality.
  • Serve as a mentor to students in your area of expertise.
  • Provide career mentoring and career exploration opportunities
  • Serve as a facilitator for the development of employability skills
  • Coordination of industry visits and guest speakers (including industry and program representatives)

 

Classroom Instruction

  • Teach 15-18 contact hours per semester, incorporating real-world applications and hands-on learning.
  • Develop and deliver well-structured, engaging lessons that align with industry trends.
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback to support student learning and growth.
  • As needed, teach classes online, on-campus, and/or at off-campus sites.
  • Teach an academic success class as needed.
  • Maintain regular, appropriate, professional communication with students.
  • Incorporate appropriate instructional technology to enhance student learning.
  • Ensure cleanliness of instructional areas and laboratories.
  • Ensure the proper operation of classroom/lab equipment, reporting any malfunctions to the appropriate person(s).
  • Participate in the evaluation and acquisition of instructional materials, audiovisual aids, support and equipment needs.
  • Develop and distribute course syllabi according to the established template and guidelines, providing appropriate information to students concerning course expectations, evaluation criteria, and access to student support services.

 

Other Services to Students

  • Offer at least five office hours per week to provide student support and guidance.
  • Act as a mentor, helping students navigate academic and career pathways.
  • Maintain regular, appropriate, professional communication with students.
  • Participate in semester advising and registration activities as needed.
  • Assist in the recruitment and retention efforts of the College.
  • Advocate and provide motivation for students.
  • Communicate students’ needs to the Program Head.
  • Regularly communicate with SCC’s dual enrollment liaisons about student progress or issues.

 

Divisional Administrative Expectations

  • Maintain accurate records and submit reports, grades, and required documentation on time.
  • Engage in professional development to stay current with instructional methods and industry trends.
  • Participate in program and curriculum review.
  • Participate in campus activities.
  • Participate in discipline, departmental, divisional, and institutional meetings and other announced co-curricular activities of the College.
  • Maintain regular, professional communication within the college and affiliated industry contacts.
  • Maintain posted office and on-campus hours sufficient to fulfill all contracted duties and individual professional obligations and meet the needs of the discipline, department, division, and College.
  • Support all functions of the College, including compliance with all facets of the College’s academic policies.
  • Serve on and actively contribute to college committees as assigned

 

Other Duties Specific to this Position

  • Provide and/or facilitate quality experiences in laboratory and/or clinical settings to meet program needs.
  • Report any safety issues to the Program Head or appropriate High School official.
  • Report any equipment maintenance needs in the labs to the appropriate Program Head or Dean.
