Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Life Science or Engineering field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of work experience in an academic or manufacturing laboratory.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s or Doctorate in a Life Science or Engineering field.
  • Experience in a GMP-regulated laboratory.
  • Experience in analytical chemistry and/or microbiology.
  • Prior management experience.
  • Teaching experience at a community college or university.

Position Description

The Laboratory Manager oversees the operation of bench-scale and quality control (QC) laboratories at the Biomanufacturing Education and Skills Training (BEST) Center of Eastern NC. This role ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality lab operations that support education and workforce development for life sciences companies in Eastern North Carolina.

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Lead the start-up and operation of bench-scale and QC laboratories within the BEST Center

• Manage staff responsible for operating laboratory equipment

• Write job descriptions; recruit and hire laboratory technicians

• Deliver lectures and/or lead lab activities

• Develop progress reports upon request

• Perform administrative functions as needed

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Plan, organize, and support education and training delivery while meeting/exceeding goals for safety, quality, schedule, and cost

• Proficient with basic laboratory instruments and/or manufacturing equipment

• Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with community college students and industry trainees

• Effective written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to work independently and as a team member

• Use computer and other digital technologies to maximize efficiency

• Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

• Knowledge of laboratory safety and biosafety practices
