Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
Two (2) years’ professional experience in developing, coordinating and marketing instructional courses/programs or delivering instructional courses/programs.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Criminal Justice or closely related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
Experience in course development and some previous experience working for or providing training in a law enforcement environment.
Previous or current certified Law Enforcement Officer in the state of North Carolina.

Occupational Summary
-
The Law Enforcement Training Coordinator plans, develops, implements and administers non-credit continuing education programs to provide training for local law enforcement agencies. This position assesses needs, plans and markets course offerings, develops and evaluates curriculums, and recruits and evaluates instructors. This position also oversees delivery of occupational extension courses as assigned.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

- Provides excellent customer service and assistance to internal and external customers through walk-in, telephone and email
- Assess and develops programs and efforts to provide customized job training for Craven County Law Enforcement agencies, the Department of Adult Corrections, Probation and Parole or other stare or Federal Law Enforcement agencies and other workforce development courses as assigned
- Plans, coordinates and oversees the administration of operations, course outline preparation, contract preparation, registration, fee collection or waiver of fees requirements, orientation, instruction, grading and evaluation of courses delivered to law enforcement agencies
- Assists in the transition and development of law enforcement training programs at the First Responders Training Center
- Assists in the coordination and day-to-day management of the First Responders Training Center
- Leads law enforcement advisory committee to conduct needs assessments to ensure training is current and agency needs are being met
- Researches and designs new training programs and updates existing training and documentation
- Recruits, interviews, orients and manages adjuncts for the program area; monitors and evaluates instructor performance
- Operates and maintains the Virtra simulator
- Works with the NC Department of Justice Criminal Justice Education and Training and Standards Division and the NC Department of Adult Corrections Staff Development and Training Division for course curricula and for guidance and direction when developing or adding additional courses or questions on existing courses
- Makes required class visits as outlined in the policy for Accountability and Credibility for continuing education
- Monitors compliance with local, state and federal regulations, accreditation standards and audits
- Coordinates the ordering of books, materials, supplies and facilities for courses in program area
- Ensures courses are posted on the College’s website and appropriate state websites
- Collaborates with state agencies that oversee regulated or controlled courses
- Promotes community awareness of program opportunities
- Participates in appropriate committees and task forces as assigned
- Performs other job-related duties and projects as assigned in support of the College’s mission, core values and goals

- Adult learning theory, concepts and teaching methodology

- Knowledge of college programs, services and procedures relating to law enforcement training
- Methods and techniques of program marketing and publicity
- Working knowledge of records management and control
- Federal, state and college requirements regarding FERPA and other applicable laws and regulations
Skills
- Proficiency in planning, organization, communication, training, supervisory and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in technological systems as they apply to instruction and administrative needs, including Microsoft Office
