Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA- accredited university. One year of academic library experience. Must have experience with library instruction and electronic database management.
Preferred Qualifications
Community college library experience, familiarity with NC LIVE, LibGuides, EZ Proxy, Summon, experience with Evergreen ILS, and a strong understanding of MLA and APA writing styles.
Position Description
General Function
Brunswick Community College Library supports the mission of the College by providing access to information in a wide variety of formats for students, faculty, staff, and adult residents of Brunswick County. The librarian provides support through collaborative library planning and assessment, collection management, library instruction, integration of appropriate technology, and collaboration with library staff in providing services and resources.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Leads collection development process for physical and electronic collections in order to support all programs offered by the college, seeking faculty input in the acquisition of materials, as well as the process of deselecting print and electronic holdings.
- Provides instruction in the use of library resources and services to a variety of curriculum, continuing education, and Early College High School courses.
- Assists students, faculty, and staff with library resources by serving as the primary in-person and virtual reference staff member and the back-up circulation services staff member.
- Maintains databases and access to databases using EZ Proxy and Summon.
- Creates and maintains useful and ADA-compliant resources, tutorials, and guides to help students, faculty, and staff.
- Contributes to annual planning, assessment, and reporting activities by conducting surveys, running reports, and completing various assessment practices of library activities.
- Ensures that distance learners have access to resources supporting their programs and instruction in the use and evaluation of information through LibGuides and videos.
- Maintains library webpages and web content, including booking software, forms, procedures, hours, and events.
- Plans and carries out Learning Resources events and assists with Student Services events.
- Supervises library work study students.
- Keeps abreast of trends and issues related to libraries through professional development activities and listservs.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a frequent basis and up to 20 pounds occasionally.
- Use hands and upper body to operate a variety of machines, tools, and equipment related to office and library processes.
- Walk, stand, reach while handling objects, stoop, and kneel for extended periods of time.
WORK SCHEDULE
During the regular semesters, the library hours are 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 pm. Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Friday. This position will require some morning shifts and some evening shifts.
