Preferred Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline and a minimum of 2 years of academic advisement experience
- Strong understanding of the needs of first year college students;
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team;
- Demonstrated ability to work well with faculty and administrators;
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed;
- Strong organization, project management and facilitation skills;
- Ability to enter, monitor and interpret student data accurately;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Strong computer skills, particularly Google Suite applications; proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Access and Excel, and aptitude to learn new systems as needed. and aptitude to learn new systems as needed.
- Proven history of working in retention-based programming that supports persistence and academic success
- Experience functioning as a case manager for an assigned group of students, with a focus on proactive outreach, referrals, and progress monitoring
- Ability to work effectively within a centralized program structure and comply with reporting requirements to the North Carolina Community College System Office
- Strong understanding of the educational needs and challenges facing students from diverse backgrounds
- Multilingual in English and Spanish.
Position Description
NC Boost is an associate degree completion program based on the principles of the successful CUNY Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP). NC Boost is designed to increase timely graduation rates by removing the financial, academic, and personal obstacles that many students confront. Key NC Boost program features include a consolidated block schedule, small class size, required full-time study and comprehensive advisement, and career development services. Financial incentives include tuition waivers for financial aid-eligible students and yearly textbook assistance for all students.
The NC Boost Advisor is a member of an integrated college team providing individual academic and personal support to an assigned group of community college students as they progress through the program.
Example of Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Provide comprehensive, proactive, and appreciative advising from onboarding through degree completion for an assigned caseload of Boost students.
- Assist students in identifying academic and career goals, developing full academic plans, registering for courses, and connecting with campus and community resources.
- Maintain a structured caseload management system to ensure consistent outreach, progress monitoring, and follow-up based on student needs.
- Collaborate closely with faculty, academic departments, and student support offices to address student concerns and promote holistic success.
- Utilize systems such as Ellucian/Colleague, Watermark Student Success & Engagement, and Google Suite to maintain accurate student records and analyze data trends to improve services.
- Utilize data reports, early alerts, and trend analysis to proactively identify barriers, inform interventions, and support student persistence and success.
- Participate in professional development activities to remain current in academic advising best practices and the needs of diverse student populations.
- Assist with new student orientation and other student-centered events that foster engagement and belonging.
- Apply knowledge of college, state, and federal policies and procedures in support of student progression and success.
- Maintains accurate tracking data and notes for each assigned student, recommending appropriate referrals and opportunity programs.
- Supports recruitment, orientation, and engagement initiatives for new and continuing Boost students.
- Plans, facilitates, and supports student workshops and seminars that address academic success, personal development, transfer, and career readiness topics relevant to Boost students.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
