Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in secondary and/or postsecondary education, preferred.
- Working knowledge of Datatel/Colleague, preferred.
- Experience with or demonstrated knowledge of career services, preferred.
- Knowledge and practical application of student/career development theory, preferred.
- Be knowledgeable in all aspects of the student experience to include: coaching, mentoring, advising, student/career services, and progression, preferred.
Position Description
Statement of Primary Purpose |
In support of Isothermal Community College, the NC Career Coach will cultivate programs and services for the high school learner, so that the individual can successfully enter and advance in a career pathway.
The Career Coach will spend approximately 18.75 hours per week at each of the following: Polk County High School and a Rutherford County High School, but will also periodically report to Isothermal Community College for meetings, professional development opportunities, etc.
Position is contingent on annual allocation of grant funds from the State Board of Community Colleges. The project period is June 30, 2023, to June 30, 2028.
Essential Responsibilities |
- Career Exploration
- Support outreach efforts involving high school students to raise awareness of opportunities and assist in enrollment of high school students in Polk County (PC) to Isothermal Community College (ICC).
- Support students’ efforts for career pathways, recruitment, and enrollment efforts.
- Coordinate events designed to promote awareness of career pathways.
- Work with College personnel to prepare information related to career pathways for distribution to students and parents.
- Organize campus tours.
- Establish and follow plans to ensure consistent communication with students, faculty, staff, parents, and additional stakeholders.
- Advising
- Assist with college advising for high school students.
- Maintain accurate and adequate student records to for assessment purposes.
- Provide information to college personnel regarding course needs for high school students.
- Responsible for knowledge of Polk High Schools’ and ICC’s policies and procedures, as well as information related to community workforce development resources, to provide students with information and guidance to assist them in making informed decisions.
- Support Services
- Provide supportive intervention to help students succeed in college courses.
- Serve as a liaison with the Counselor and Student Advocacy Coordinator for high school students who needs accommodations when enrolled in college courses.
- Arrange and assist with placement assessment and provide assessment interpretation.
- Monitor student progress in ICC classes and work with students, parents/guardians, and instructors to develop plans for success.
- Develop and implement assessment methods/processes to evaluate the program quality.
- Assist in communicating policy and procedure information to students and parents/guardians.
- Recommend procedures for maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines, e.g., coordination ADA & IDEA, Title IX, and FERPA, etc.
- Conduct workshops and classroom visits with enrolled high school students.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
