Position Description
The Part-time Coordinator, for Fire/Rescue Continuing Education, Public Services position is responsible for the Fire/Rescue Continuing Education programs at Davidson-Davie Community College. Duties include setting up classes, visiting classes throughout the semester, gathering required student information, maintaining instructional records, providing support to instructors as well as assisting students as needed. This position reports directly to the Division Chair, Public Services. Davidson-Davie Community College coordinators have the following responsibilities including, but not limited to:
- Promote the college mission, vision and values
- Attend appropriate internal and external meetings
- Assist in student recruitment and retention
- Maintain accessibility to students, faculty and staff
- Assists with the administration of courses in classroom, lab and/or practical settings to meet program needs including day, evening, weekend, and online courses
- Evaluates student(s) and instructor(s) progress and provides appropriate feedback
- Develops course syllabi and instructional materials and provides appropriate written information to students concerning course evaluation and criteria
- Explores, assesses, and implements appropriate instructional technology to enhance student learning outcomes
- Assists in developing, organizing, implementing, and administering a program(s) of continuing education (non-credit) courses to provide educational opportunities in his/her particular area of responsibility
- Assists in the recruitment and orientation of new instructors to include a review of Continuing Education Instruction Manual and requirements for record keeping
- Assists in scheduling and set up of classes
- Proctoring exams
- Participates in activities necessary to maintain program compliance with regulatory agencies
- Assists in the evaluation of courses and programs
- Prepares and submits instructional records, reports, and grades established by institutional policy
- Works collaboratively with faculty, staff and external agencies
Successful candidates will possess:
Required Qualifications:
- Associate in Applied Science degree from an accredited institution in a discipline-related field
- Level II Fire Instructor Certification
- Fire Fighter I & II Certification
- Qualified Proctor with North Carolina Fire and Rescue Commission or the ability to obtain upon hire
- Minimum three years related work experience
- Creativity and openness to change
- Computer skills (including MS Office 2007) and commitment to use of technology in instruction
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work effectively and collegially with others in a team environment
- Ability to provide leadership including but not limited to anticipating and responding to change
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including day, evening, and weekend hours at multiple sites
- Familiarity with and appreciation for the mission of a comprehensive community college
- Ability to maintain high level of sensitivity, understanding, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in discipline-related field
North Carolina Community College System Instructor/Coordinator experience
