Position Description

The Part-Time Financial Aid Counselor delivers comprehensive financial aid services to students and their families, including support for Veteran Affairs educational benefits. Reporting to the Director of Financial Aid, the Part-Time Financial Aid Counselor is responsible for the following:

 

Essential Job Functions:

 

  • Financial Aid Counseling: Provide comprehensive counseling to students and parents regarding all aspects of federal, state, and institutional financial aid, including eligibility requirements and necessary documentation.
  • Need Analysis and Awarding: Conduct need analyses in compliance with regulations to determine financial aid eligibility and award assistance in accordance with college, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Coordination and Communication: Collaborate with the DDCC Contact Center to respond promptly to financial aid inquiries and support recruitment activities, assessments, orientations, and financial aid presentations and workshops.
  • Technology Utilization: Leverage available technology to efficiently process student aid applications and related paperwork, ensuring exceptional service delivery.
  • Veterans Affairs Support: Serve as a VA Certifying Official, assisting students in obtaining and maintaining educational benefits through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. This includes maintaining up-to-date records in the Veteran Affairs portal and ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Documentation and Compliance: Create and maintain appropriate documentation for students receiving VA educational benefits, including records related to their program of study, attendance, and progress, while regularly auditing veterans’ records to ensure compliance with VA regulations.
  • Data Management: Process internal and external data requests, including financial aid awards and income verification forms, and maintain accurate financial aid and VA documents, marketing materials, and website information.
  • Professional Development: Stay informed on changes in federal and state legislation affecting Veterans Affairs Programs by participating in relevant workshops and conferences.
  • Reporting and Collaboration: Provide regular updates and reports to the Lead Counselor and Director of Financial Aid regarding the status of Veterans Administration program implementation. Collaborate with administrative support staff to develop cross-training opportunities and enhance knowledge sharing.
  • Additional Support: Assist the Contact Center in monitoring calls related to Financial Aid and perform other duties as assigned that align with the mission and initiatives of the college. Attend college events and meetings to support the institution’s mission, vision, and values.

 

Minimum Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • At least one year of financial aid experience
  • Customer service experience

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience working financial aid
  • Military Service or experience serving military personnel and their dependents
