Minimum Qualifications
- Education Requirement: High school diploma or high school equivalency diploma, and a minimum of two years of related work experience in the field of study, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience teaching adults.
- Experience delivering course content in a correctional facility setting.
- Working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications, and familiarity with accessing the internet for data entry into a browser-based Management Information System.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate records and files, including database entry.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Proven leadership ability, supervisory experience, and commitment to teamwork.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some nights and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with justice-involved populations; National Career Readiness Certification.
Position Description
The Occupational Extension–Prison Instructor will teach occupational skills at correctional facilities, including the DART Center, Neuse Correctional Institution, and/or Wayne County Detention Center in Wayne County, to meet the needs of today’s job market in one of the following areas:
- Horticulture/Greenhouse Production
- Food Service
- Entrepreneurship
- Environmental Services
- Networking Security
- Direct Care Worker
