- Two years full-time direct patient care as a registered nurse
- Attain/maintain teaching requirements per the NCBON, which reads:
21 NCAC 36 .0318 FACULTY
(a) Policies for nursing program faculty members shall be consistent with those for other faculty of the controlling institution, with variations as needed due to the nature of the nursing curriculum.
(b) Fifty percent or more of the nursing faculty shall hold a graduate degree.
(c) Nurses licensed pursuant to this Chapter who are full-time and part-time faculty and who teach in a program leading to initial licensure as a nurse shall:
(1) hold an active unencumbered license or multistate licensure privilege to practice as a registered nurse in North Carolina.
(2) hold either a baccalaureate in nursing or a graduate degree in nursing from an accredited institution.
(3) have two calendar years or the equivalent of full-time clinical experience as a registered nurse. A full-time registered nurse is a registered nurse employed by an institution who is regularly. assigned to work at least 40 hours each week in the position of faculty member.
(4) if newly employed in a full-time faculty position on or after January 1, 2016, hold a graduate degree from an accredited institution or obtain a graduate degree in nursing from an accredited institution within five years of initial full-time employment.
(5) prior to or within the first three years of employment, have education in teaching and learning principles for adult education, including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation, appropriate to faculty assignment. Once completed, this education need not be repeated if the employing organization is changed. This education may be demonstrated by one of the following:
(A) Completion of forty-five contact hours of Board-approved continuing education courses.
(B) completion of a certificate program in nursing education.
(C) nine semester hours of graduate course work in adult learning and learning principles.
(D) national certification in nursing education; or
(E) documentation of completion of structured, individualized development activities of at
least forty-five contact hours approved by the Board. Criteria for approval shall include content. in the faculty role in the curriculum implementation, curricular objectives to be met and evaluated, review of strategies for identified student population, and expectations of student and faculty performance.
(6) maintain competence in the areas of assigned responsibility; and
(7) have knowledge of current nursing practice for the registered nurse and the licensed practical nurse.

Position Description
Teach classroom sessions, conduct subject research, evaluate student progress, develop instructional plans, advise students, review and request new materials, maintain records, and prepare a variety of reports as requested; plan, implement, supervise, evaluate, and coordinate activities related to clinical and classroom for the LPN students. Provide leadership and supervision of nursing personnel in conjunction with the Director of Nursing.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Teach program material via seated and online classes as required by the schedule.
- Learn new material to keep up with changing technology.
- Facilitate regular and substantive interaction via proactive communication with students.
- Participate in recruiting new students.
- Ensure classrooms, labs, and lab equipment are in good repair and maintain a safe environment for students and employees.
- Serve as a mentor to students in your area of expertise.
- Represent the program within the College and community as the primary point of contact with enthusiasm.
- Provide supervision to other faculty teaching within the program.
- Coordinate advisory boards, program updates, offerings, and scheduling of courses.
- Contact out-of-state students via email or postal mail with information related to program compliance with licensure requirements in their state of residence as required by the U.S. Department of Education.
DUTIES:
- Assess course student learning outcomes, updating as needed.
- Assist and advise the Associate VP of Health Sciences and Human Services to ensure instructional excellence.
- Assist students with career opportunities in conjunction with Student Services
- Assist the Nursing Program Director in the preparation of reports for the College, approval and accrediting agencies.
- Calculate and monitor faculty workload; share with the Program Director
- Collaborate with clinical affiliates to plan, implement, and evaluate student clinical experiences.
- Conduct student advising conferences related to student progress.
- Coordinate and hold course meetings, pre- and post-semester.
- Coordinate, supervise, and evaluate student performance in nursing lab, simulation, and clinical situations.
- Create justifications for clinical faculty; share with the Program Director
- Create a schedule for course offerings.
- Create, administer, grade, and maintain records for exams, projects, activities, and reports for the evaluation of students in courses.
- Develop syllabi and class schedules for assigned nursing courses.
- Develop, deliver, and discuss clinical packets to clinical faculty and clinical agencies.
- Disseminate evaluations for and to clinical faculty and clinical sites.
- Establish and maintain industry contacts, which include arranging guest speakers, field trips, etc.
- Evaluate adjunct clinical faculty.
- Instruct in nursing courses (15-18 contact hours per semester)
- Maintain office hours as part of the workload.
- Manage clinical probation situations as they arise.
- Monitor and evaluate program outcomes annually.
- Obtain and submit travel, leave requests, and clinical payroll monthly.
- Oversee clinical requirements of students per agency requirements.
- Participate in the annual Nursing Advisory Board meeting.
- Participate in courses and curriculum revision.
- Participate in professional development, college-wide, and as appropriate to position.
- Participate in student recruitment and retention.
- Participate in the development/maintenance of learning management material for nursing courses.
- Perform other duties incidental to the work described herein.
- Planning clinical schedules
- Seek and evaluate student services in the interest of nursing students.
- Seek, evaluate, and maintain instructional materials and equipment.
- Serve on a variety of committees, college-wide and professional.
- Submit final grades.
